Weird Al has always been a favorite musician of mine. He's universally recognized as ENTP, which makes a lot of sense due to his comedy style. However, due to a recent interview, he's seeming a bit more INTP. In one part he says that he's still awkward in social situations and leans heavily on his wife (figuratively) in social gatherings. Let's move on to the letters.

Introverted or Extroverted

He may be in between the two, but Introverted is backed up by the fact that in his childhood, he was very secluded, contemplative, and smart, very similar to the majority of INTP children.

Intuitive

His intuition is evident, since he has these outlandish, creative ideas. He also has a huge collection of Hawaiian shirts and other strange clothing, so he has a bit more of the N sort of 'I don't care about the outwardness of this'. He isn't really a day-to-day, scheduled guy.

Thinking

During his college career, which he started early at the age of 16, he pursued architecture, the namesake of the INTP. He shows respect for emotions, however, so I think he's T with a well-developed Fi and Fe.

Perceiving

This is obvious. He is very eccentric, very spontaneous, and isn't quite as organized and methodical as a J. Also, his fun accordion acts would show that he isn't your average guy.

Always read him as NTP. People can debate the I vs E, I suppose; but he's got an obvious avalanche of Ne in his work and stage shows and vids regardless.

Let's face it, he's an INTP cultural signifier, kind of like Monty Python.

Saying somebody is generally recognized as a type (ENTP) but portrays some INTP in an interview is meaningless. We all have all the types within us, our defined type is the one we're more comfortable with and use all (or most of) the time. Put me in front of a camera that I'm comfortable with and I turn into an ENTP. Put me on this forum and I write like an INTJ (I'm told). So what? The essence is what it is.

Would accessing another function mean that you are reordering your functions stack temporarily, meaning that your type would transiently change?

I don't see that, the evidence suggests that Type operates as a motivation in our psyches, not as a mechanism that we must invoke to do anything. By this theory then your type motivates you to behave in certain ways, and of course we have other motivations which may encourage you to behave in a different way, such as during an interview.

it's not true in the least though but why not reap some humility points when the opportunity presents itself. :D :D :D

"i just might be a sensor" <--- good song to write. maybe something for mister weird al. he could make a parody of the typology community - awakening deep reflection via disarming self-effacing stupidity.

Kind of reminds me of Steve Taylor in Christian music back in the 80's... he had a small but happily rabid fan base while being disliked by the cookie-cutter industry because he'd write songs about Christian living like, "I Want to Be a Clone Now" in order to needle the mainstream religious stupidity.

Amazing point, Architect. I hadn't thought of that. It's just that he borders the E and I a bit.

ENTPs trademark is socially awkward extroversion. I'm extroverted but I lack Fi. It is about understanding people's internal emotionality. I suck at it. Just imagine how hard that makes approaching people. ISFJ (our ideal pair) is supposed to give this initial help for us.
Then I can become my crazy self.

ISTP... not in a milloin years. STPs are not overly goofy TPs. They give you the impact.

i don't see weird al as a very goofy dude. straight to the point, crass humor. he doesn't take twists and turns and create humor that way: he finds something that everybody gets, something ridiculous that "just is" and can be mocked, Ni&Se like. then he got that obnoxious Ti-Fe thing but he's a bit relaxed about that, like ISTP's are more capable of than INTP's. "weird al" means he's anti-harmony and niceness, not that he's erratic or incoherent. it is a statement of deviance, of being prepared to deal with the ugly due to being at home in the outcast sector.

how is he goofy?

(maybe i should watch interviews, so far i only recall his songs)

Definitely not. In fact, he appears to be a J type. He interviews in a focused, appreciating the attention style reminiscent of many Js, as opposed to a more P style in which they would conduct the interview in a serious manner for the sake of the interview rather than anything else.

It isn't that simple.

It's safe to say J types are fond of parody comedy, such as South Park and the Simpsons. That doesn't mean they would be adept at constructing it though.
