In my case, these songs made me cry:
Avril Lavigne "Nobody's Home"
John Lennon "Imagine"
Rod Stewart "Have I Told You Lately"

Many, many songs have made me cry over the past 26.5 years. I can't remember any making me cry from the first 7 years, but babies cry over anything so I'm sure it happened. The earliest memory I have of crying to a song was Layla by Eric Clapton. The slide guitar and piano accompany at the end is way too sentimental.

The saddest song off the top of my head is Daniel by Elton John. Along the same lines would be Say Hello To Heaven by Temple Of The Dog or anything by Pearl Jam; different genre but just as hardcore sad.

I think Stairway To Heaven by Led Zeppelin is a very emotionally powerful song and it makes me cry hard, but it is not sad, it is beautiful. I have an occult interpretation of the words. Smashing Pumpkins is another example of inspirational music that makes a man cry tears of joy.

There is one song that makes me cry that I think many who identify as INTP can relate to that I want to share. I relate with the song because I am avoidant and afraid of commitment. It was written by a woman who was frustrated because the man she was into was distancing himself. It is ambiguous enough for me to apply the imagined feelings and thoughts of all the people who I have distanced myself/ran from/dropped contact with through out my life. When I listen to this song, I imagine that I, by chance, encounter someone who I ran away from and they express the sadness I caused. It's therapeutic. Its called I Try by Angela Bofill. Here is a link to it on youtube if anyone is curious: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5UNlTDhkRCQ

I HAVE SO MANY SONGS that have made me cry in the past few years
So many
Like I could go on for ages and ages. But they all have a ton of personal value & relevance; I don't expect y'all to cry over every one of these. Bleh I'll just put some of the more relatable ones on here idk

Astronaut, by Amanda Palmer
And I am still not getting what I want
I want to touch the back of your right arm
I wish you could remind me who I was
Because every day I'm a little further off

(There are a million songs by Amanda Palmer that mean the world to me; so much so that I'd rather not share them. *possessive, Gollum-like hiss*)

The Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot, by Brand New
If it makes you less sad, I will die by your hand
Hope you find out what you are; already know what I am
And if it makes you less sad, we'll start talking again
You can tell me how vile I already know that I am
I'll grow old, start acting my age
It'll be a brand new day in a life that you hate

Kettering, by the Antlers
But something kept me standing by that hospital bed, I should have quit but instead I took care of you.
You made me sleep all uneven, and I didn't believe them when they told me that there was no saving you.

Youth, by Daughter
Well I've lost it all, I'm just a silhouette,
A lifeless face that you'll soon forget,
My eyes are damp from the words you left,
Ringing in my head, when you broke my chest.

After the War, by Stars
All the living are dead, and the dead are all living
The war is over and we are beginning...

http://youtu.be/k4V3Mo61fJM
Fix You, by Coldplay
Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you

http://youtu.be/p4cJv6s_Yjw
Between the Bars, by Elliott Smith
People you've been before
That you don't want around anymore
That push and shove and won't bend to your will
I'll keep them still

Also if I listen to the Grateful Dead for a while I end up in this 'nebulous' state sort of between profound emotion and feeling out-of-body. I'm not sure which song to put here though. /._./

I believe the translation of the title is "The Sky May Be Falling, but the Stars Look Good on You."

Eminem, surprisingly enough.

Well, to any Eminem fans it wouldn't be too surprising.

I mean, come on, how can you listen to Mockingbird and NOT tear up?

Any songs that remind me of my mom's death make me sad.
-"Sissy's Song" by Alan Jackson, my mom died relatively young so this song is relatable
-"Go Rest High on that Mountain" by Vince Gill
-"Amazing Grace" because it was played at her funeral
-"Neon Moon" by Brooks and Dunn. My mom loved that song and it is about loss

This one.

Ritchie Blackmores Rainbow, Vielleicht das Nachste Mal (Maybe Next Time)

This guy is amazing. If there was video of him playing this version it'd grip you all the more. All the live footage I found were simplified versions of the song, and the sound quality wasn't as good.

And then, of course Jimi Hendrix Little Wing.

I prefer songs that make me want to break stuff.

This one has actually made me cry before because of people in my past who are no longer here:

A fucking black hole
Just like dair, I consider Hurt by NIN a quintessential song to sob. Below is a list that I consider to well me up or give me goosebumps. Any item prefixed with a ! can be considered to be quicker in its impact
  1. Pearl Jam: Rearviewmirror
  2. PJ: Black [!]
  3. PJ: Alive
  4. Portal OST: Still Alive
  5. Porcupine Tree: Arriving Somewhere But Not Here
  6. Radiohead: Fake Plastic Trees [!]
  7. Radiohead: Creep [!]
  8. The Wallflowers: One Headlight
  9. Five Finger Death Punch: Coming down [!]
  10. Live: I Alone
  11. Andy Timmons: Cry for you [!]
  12. BFMV: Bittersweet Memories
  13. Skidrow: I Remember You
  14. Draper: Pressure
  15. Jeff Buckley's cover of Hallelujah [!]
Who wins from this list? I vote for Black. You cannot beat that song in any aspect: The music and the vocals. It is essentially sad and will bring you down no matter what your mood is.

Heroes:

And Danny Boy.

Per Robert Redford:
"Life is essentially sad. Happiness is sporadic. It comes in moments, and that's it. Extract the blood from every moment," Robert Redford chatting with Esquire journalist Matthew Belloni.
