  • Oh wow, hello again! ^^
I visit occasionally, but not as much as I used to. It's great to know you have happiness (so there is such a thing after all! O: ). Seems you've found an occupation that utilizes your natural affinities. I hope I find an occupation like that. =p

I have been exploring life; reading, drawing, writing a novel, and traveling the world. I visited Europe a few months ago, and am currently visiting Australia.
It's great to hear from you! :3
(there is something i'm working on that i'd like to show you once it is near finished. ^^; whenver you drop by again)
    kind regards-
    Auburn
    Hi Nia,
I hope life is well for you. :3

You are still remembered, and missed.
I'll go back to "normal" when the hair grows out grey. It was a Halloween prank, except the hair dye turned out to be permanent, not temporary. :-) I'd shave my head except that would make those enormous jughandle ears stick out even more. Oh well, not caring what people think means you really really really don't care what people think. I keep telling myself that, anyway. :-)

I'll stick a fresh photo in as avatar when things settle down.
"Yep, you've got it daimon and demon mean essentially the same thing - spirit. I have used the notion of spirit in its metaphorical rather than literal sense, so eudemonia means spirit of goodness and happiness. To me it incorporates Aristotle's notion of 'virtue' - that in order to flourish, humans need to have a sense of higher purpose and meaning and we can only get that if we devote our lives to something higher than ourselves. According to a talk I went to last week, it means moving from an ego-self to an eco-self - a self united with others in pursuit of a goal that can benefit humanity as a whole. Sounds dangerous!

Thanks for taking the trouble to post the quote. It reminded me of the notion of 'flow' - achieving a sense of euphoria through hard work and dedication to a challenging goal."

Here I was thinking how beautifully conceived your username is, and then you go ahead and mention the notion of 'flow'. Respect!
"By my word I owe Eudemonia 1 favour/wish/thingy"

I'm putting it here because I'm sick of having it in my sig.
In any situation like that I'm tempted to try to figure out if I know them, but I suppose its pretty unlikely. Glad you were able to help her feel like her home wasn't an international backwater :D
It's nice to be missed. :)

I've been in a weird mood as of late. We just saw "Where the Wild Things Are" and I loved it, but it brought back all sorts of childhood emotions. Very interesting.

I'd love to hear more about the "think while you drink" thing. :D

ohhh is your name supposed to be "eudaimonia" with "demon" embedded? haha, nice.

I found a quote that you might find relevant:
The happy life is thought to be one of excellence; now
an excellent life requires exertion, and does not consist
in amusement. If Eudaimonia, or happiness, is activity in
accordance with excellence, it is reasonable that it should
be in accordance with the highest excellence; and this will
be that of the best thing in us.
    -- Aristotle, "Nichomachean Ethics"
Hey there - I'm thinking of you too - is there anything I can help you with - lesson planning etc? I am definitely up for lunch - I'm away next week and weekend (in the US!!) and then from 11th Nov I'm in Jordan for 2 weeks, but apart from that have few plans. I'm absolutely fine now btw - in fact better than for years. Spiritual stuff - might write about it some time.
*kneels before the lady, hat in hand*

That was a great kiss, Nia. Give me my sin again.
You can try to guess where I live. I think I might've said so somewhere on this forum before. There's a chance you might've heard of this place, considering you're British.

    Kenosis - I've learnt a new word today! :D

This thing about class and all - it reminds me of something in the book 1984 about revolutions being a way for the middle to overthrow the high by enlisting the help of the low, who have no hope whatsoever no matter who wins.

The thing about my country is that they don't even bother to hide their nonsense. They're not corrupt because they don't have to be - they can raise their salaries openly and say they deserve it, and they take it as a given that the people have to "trust" what they're doing.

I wonder what the MEPs do anyway. :p. Everything they manage to cobble together seems to be some kind of kludge that means different things to different people (and I suppose it's intentional :p). And still gets rejected by some member state or other. :D
    Hi nia

Abstract land borders...not quite. I live on a very small island (not like your very big one).

I don't think I love my compatriots more than others. But I believe my country should take care of its own first. The rest can be taken care of by their own countries. If we're screwed, there is absolutely no one we can turn to. If our country doesn't protect us, we're finished. Because we are forced to give up a good deal of liberty here, and there is not even temporary security.

I don't know about you, but I always find that public service should be motivated by a desire to serve. I often don't see that here. It's just another career, with performance bonuses based on KPIs like any other industry.
