Default Social Experiment

Ok so First off I wanted to say that I am not sure if this should go in this category so it could be moved if need be. Ok so here is the deal I was invited to go to a wedding and reception and I don't like dancing and since that is all that happens at the reception I wanted to have a social experiment to keep myself busy. So where better to go for ideas than the forum. One thing though is whatever it is has to be clean but if you have an idea and you want to post it anyway thats fine im not going to stop anyone from doing that, I just probably won't use it lol. So yeah ideas anyone?

try to turn every conversation you might have into a very detailed criticism of all the food that is there (even the croutons for the salads)

(Btw this sounds like a dumb idea to me but I needed to come up with something fast......it might be funny though the first couple of times)

okay here's an example (this is turning into a habit of mine, always putting theoretical conversations in my posts.....)

Random person: "This sure is a cold day for the wedding"

Monkitman: "Yea it is......Speaking of cold........I wonder why they choose to server this shrimp cold. I mean it's still good cold, but this little guy has so much more potential in him. Surely they could have grilled this bad boy up, put some nice juices and spices over him, and you'd have your self one damn fine tasty seafood critter."

Same random person:.......well now this is part that you're trying to figure out, so listen carefully to whatever it may be

good luck with that wedding, and bring back results if you do this, it might actually be interesting

I have been there.

Get as drunk as you dare after doing something invigorating.

I had to go to my cousins weding last year and I wasnt "feeling" social. Contrary to other posts, I dont always.

So I jumped off bluff after a couple of beers that morning.

Thats not me, but you get the idea.

you wear shoes or it hurts bad. I jumped off the top twice. i made myself just do it.

I went to that wedding glad to be alive. It went well.

Bluesquid@ well I am 16 so can't drink lol.

Cauterize@ thats a good idea but I have to wear a suit so it can't be something that I wear. I was thinking something to test behavior in group settings or even just something so i can test individual people so I can analyze then and see what they are like.

I remember going to my uncle's wedding when I was about 10. So what I did was take a bunch of the balloons they had at the reception and tied them all together to float around a plate with a piece of food on it. I even got a cousin of mine who was the same age to make one of his own. Good times.

Youre 16? Maybe there will be some girls or whatever that you can hit on. Practice those social skills. I wish I would have started earlier than I did.

Don't do anything too obscene because you are there to pay respects to the union of two people not mock it.

Perhaps study the social structure of the group.
How they interact, who talks to who, how the little groups form, who is faking smiles, just pay attention to the people and eat some free food.

Try induvidually asking each person to tell you one thing about themselves. Then make a chart of the most common responses, maybe a pie chart, to show how many people said the same thing, and how many had something unique.

Become the main antagonist of the celebration. But then you'll have to go "E".

Try Dancing.

It's awesome once you get past the awkwardness.

i agree, dancing is awesome.

i, personally, am quite known around these parts for my groove. and rhythm. mmmmm-hmm.

actually at the last wedding i attended, i spent the majority of my time at the reception trying to convince other people to "get buck" with me. surprisingly, nobody was particularly compliant.

Same here, last wedding I went to, I was one of the only four people dancing.

Sure it's kind of weird that everyone else is staring at you dance, but who cares, it's fun.

Dancing does make for very satisfying "wtf, Spock?" moments among friends and family.

As does karaoke.

Particularly if you're either actually any good, or able to really get your groove on.

"Why no, I don't drink. This is me SOBER."

you could combine that dancing with singing? The lyrics should be something socially affecting.

The wedding is on March 6th so I still got like 28 days? left to figure it out but I am liking the ideas so far thanks for the input. I especially like what The Frood said about watching "how they interact, who talks to who, how the little groups form, who is faking smiles, just pay attention to the people and eat some free food." i'll probably do that but I still want more input.

Show up dressed in a blood red suit, with an octagonal red & black stave, and some sort of demon mask, preferably red skinned with a white hair wig.

If anyone asks, say it's a traditional Chinese/Japanese thing for warding off malevolent spirits, and if any disputes that act offended then ask them if or not they've ever been to a traditional Chinese/Japanese wedding.

It's absolute bullshit of course but they don't know that

If your feeling really bold start chanting random crap and flick water on everybody.

Create a scene?

-Do a Flash mob?
-Scream
-Loudly Mimic Someone

Talk to someone (Pretend/Deceit)

-Be Overly Talkative to anyone.
-Laugh uncontrollably.
-Knock yourself out- be insane. (reminds me of the anti-social norm thread)

...or just sit back and relax and ignore anyone who is trying to initiate a conversation with you. Maybe you'll notice different faces that way.

Is your "social experiment" simply wanting to observe in some brilliant way? To create a variety of reactions, you really need to create different scenes.

Stand off to the side the whole time with a white lab coat and clipboard, taking notes on random people. Be sure to stare at some people very intently until they notice, then scribble down notes.

If anyone asks, just ask them how they feel about it while continuing to write anything they say.
