A few members may have casually noticed that although the forum is deliberately exceptionally easy to join, without validation or captcha etc., so far there has been little spam --- compared with some fora which attract a ratio of 80% posts being spam.

The main reason is of course obscurity, then luck, then some assorted precautions which include spamlists of such ferocity that Ragnar found his own email provider banned. As is one of mine in the list below.


All the way from the dim past is a sample ban-list provided by a talented coder-girl back in 2007, which includes most of the usual suspects. Cachette, I knew ye well !

Although some forum admins aver that banning China solves nearly all spamming problems, we here are not comfortable with banning whole countries --- particularly since some, including China, Australia and Germany, struggle with brutal internet censorshop regimes in any case --- so the listed top domains are not banned here. And in any case, in the cases of Poland, Germany and Finland as a group, profitable spamming, as with porn, may be the province of a particular group, who are not, say, allied to the Lutheran Church or Polish Veteran Associations. If Rumanian gipsies are known for thieving, does that mean all Rumanians are thieves ?


But of more moment is the depressing fact that these websites were created and that they will attract viewers who kinda just like the name...
