Default Short story game

Here's how it works, we post pictures and we write stories based upon those pictures, ideally you write a short story about the picture posted by the previous poster but since our muses don't always work on demand you can write a story about any picture, but when you do YOU MUST POST ANOTHER PICTURE for other writers to write about.

For example:

Quote:
"What a waste"

"I hear ya, pretty young thing like that, a damn shame"

The young man, a rookie cop fresh out of the academy, still crouching beside her all too public glass coffin, scowled up at his senior, a detective from the inner city. For his part the detective scowled back in bemusement, this wasn't by far the first corpse he had seen, nor was this the first pair of indignant eyes he had to stare down, it was an almost fatherly sentiment really.

"Don't be heartless, she had a home, a family, a life."

"So what?"

"So What!?!"

"Exactly, so what, she had a home, she had a family and yes she had a life, but now, now she's a mess for somebody else to clean up.”

“How can you say that, how would you feel if she were your daughter or you’re sister, she may no longer be alive but that’s no reason to dismiss the life or the dignity she once had.”

“Kid you must understand, that thing there is a corpse, not a person, the person is gone, now I don't know where, heck for all I know there's nowhere to go, but that's not my point. The point I'm trying to make is that although she may no longer have a life, we do, and that if you invest yourself in every pretty dead girl you see it wont be long until you'll be just as dead inside as they are."

"Oh I get it, so you're giving me the whole cynicism speech, saying that I should give up my ideals and become a heartless bastard just like you"

"No kid, I'm telling you to protect your heart, to keep it to yourself… so that you wont be."

I look forward to seeing how this develops.

Edit: And I forgot to add another picture, gimme a sec.

Here we go, I picked it because I had a nasty dream about drowning during SAS training last night... my nightmares are increasingly creative at getting me to torture myself.

so i would imagine this is more like flash fiction than a short story. i see short story and tend to think in the realm of 30-50 pages. so... yeah.

i will attempt to participate at a somewhat later point. waiting on a phone call right now.

Jane watched the police cars getting bigger in her side mirror, and stepped on the gas. The wide roads and sparse traffic meant it was easy manoeuvre her small three-wheeled vehicle, and in a few minutes she lost them in the maze of alleyways that made up a large part of the city.

Jane was no longer afraid of anything, that was the reason she robbed that bank. You see, Jane knew something, she knew something no one else knew. She knew that today, at precisely 11:37 she was going to die.
For the past two weeks she had been struggling with this knowledge, but by now it was too late to change it. So she did what any GTA addict would have done - set up an epic police chase through the city streets. Unfortunately, Jane, having spent years of her life unknowingly practicing for just such an occasion, was no match for her pursuers, and was disappointed by the ease with which she escaped.

She navigated her way to the highway, and headed inland towards the mountains, where she would have a better view of the end.
"[insert random Japanese town] - 8 kilometers" read a sign by the side of the road, and underneath it, was a hitchhiking Dog. Jane pulled over next to the Dog. "Where are you headed?" she asked. "Depends where you're going" replied the Dog, Jane smiled.

11:38. Jane wasn't going to make it in time. She stopped the car and got out to watch. At first it looked like a ray of sunlight shining through the clouds, directly down onto the island, except that it wasn't coming from the sun, and there were no clouds in the sky today. Within seconds it grew into an immense pillar of white light, slamming into the earth. The shockwave was so powerful it could be seen visibly expanding about twice as fast as the wave of dust and rubble following it. Seeing the shockwave go over the sea reminded her of surfing, and sparked a brilliant idea.
She jumped back in the car and started driving full speed, away from the explosion, with the Dogs ears audibly flapping in the wind. She watched the shockwave catch up with her in the mirror. The force of the explosion lifted the car clean off the road and sent them careening through the air, she got a good 5 or 6 seconds of air time before a tsunami of flying rubble swept over them and pummeled them to death.

The end. (Of the world...?)

Spoiler:

this should be interesting:
