Frickin' Frackin' Persuasive Essays

Alright, so I've pretty much got until Wednesday to write a rough draft for a persuasive essay about current politics, and it is supposed to be written for a resistant audience, and I need to list at least five sources (all from newspapers, blogs, or magazines) in MLA format.

Fuck.

Just felt like ranting...if you wanna give me some tips, go ahead...or just sympathize with me...or laugh at my misery (*cough*MORGOTH*cough*)

Definitely use rhetorical questions.

Why use rhetorical questions? Everyone knows they're out-of-place, don't they?

What's MLA format? Maybe you could find examples and just play up the suckiness of the government where you live, or even the inherent faults and defects in the system itself; write an essay based on how the entire system can be overhauled.

Good luck with that anyway. I hate politics, so I can't really help. I wouldn't touch it with a standard-issue Ten Foot Pole (TM).

MLA format is Modern Language Association format. I know exactly what it is, but it's just very time-consuming to list all of the sources and format them in that way.

And I'm in America.

You could cover all political viewpoints and discredit them until you can logically prove that a caste based system ruled by artificial intelligence is the best political system possible.

Or you could make it all up one the spot and call it abstract logic of the fuzzy variety.

Or blackmail the teacher, because if you’re smart enough to force people to do what you want then persuasion isn't required.

We feeling better yet?

Write about how the new bail out scheme could kill the american dollar and reference how japan have previously tried this before and it just made things worse. How goverments artificial inflation of the housing market bubble and artificially low interest rates are the cause of the massive recession (soon to be depression) that america is in now.
You could write about how Barack obama policys are almost identical to mccains and the fact that everyone thinks barack obama is magically going to fix everything is just retarded and is based on peoples emotions rather than reason.

You could write about americas 'war on drugs' has only created massive criminal networks, overfilled the jails and has done nothing to stop anyone from being able to access drugs. You could maybe then compare america to amsterdam in respect to amsterdam not having a drug problem like america. Maybe elaborate onto alcohol prohibtion in the 1920's being pretty much the same thing.

If the essay is just on politics in general not just a current political issue you could write about capitilism vs socialism and how regulating the markets has never worked before and theoretically never will work, yet socialism is so strong today

If it is to a resistant audience, be sure to address the obvious counterarguments to whatever point youre making.

"A popular contradiction to this viewpoint(your point) is blahblah blah. This argument, however, is shortsighted, blah blah blah" tell them why it is not a good argument

Any reason why some Democrats are for it?

Just so I can be more prepared to argue against their viewpoint, that is, if I want to go with the viewpoint of the Republicans...

Actually, I think I'm gonna go with the Democrats' viewpoint...

Just remembered, my professor is a hardcore liberal, and he'll probably find some way to fail my paper if I argue against his opinions... :(

Nevermind, I'm going back with the Republicans' opinions. I don't care if he's a liberal, I'll fail my paper if I try to support the Democrats viewpoints...since it's completely impossible!

everyones wrong? surely there must be some course of action which is better than the others

Anyway FF, I recomend looking up ron paul on you tube and google in regard to the recession, he explains what the best course of action is and actually predicted this would happen years ago, he's getting allot of credit for this now. Also look up japan and there stimulas package, they tried the exact same thing america is going to try years ago when they were faced with the same situation, and it failed badly

Okay, I think I'm going to have to start all over. The stimulus bill topic just isn't working for me. Personally, I could care less about economics, so it's hard for me to take a side and write 5 pages about it.

So, new topic. It's still got to be about a current event. Any suggestions? I have until...tomorrow. D:

The Iraq war is a current event. Lots of sources on that.
