Why can't I stop crying?

Seriously. It just happens and I can't stop it, regardless of how much I DON'T feel like crying or how ridiculous crying over it is.

Anyone have answers?

You may be severely depressed, or there may be some hormonal imbalance present in your body.
Truthfully, I can not make a concrete judgment without more data.

Perhaps explain why you may be crying this much?
Have you suffered recent trauma, or are you genetically prone to a certain mental disorder?

Extrapolation may give you the answers you seek.

I had a phase where I cried and I didn't really have a reason I just wanted to feel, and sadness was somehow there calling me and I could do nothing but listen. Of course it cast a darkness over my thoughts and I saw things as they should not be.

I am not certain if this is what you mean or if you feel you have a reason for it but part of you feels doubt that it is valid.

Is it a recent thing? Or just, in general?

Hmm, that's not good. Maybe you can try surfing a forum with people that are going through the same thing? Reading another persons story may help you to put things into perspective.

Hope you feel better soon!

On another note, is this thing from Princess Mononoke? :kodama1:

I'm just going to step out on the limb here and point out that, if someone is going to join a forum and post just one thing, that's a pretty strange thing to post.

I mean, either it's a cry for help (if so, go get help), or it's a cry for attention (if so, go away), or it's just plain screwed up (if so, go away).

Crying is cathartic Aza. Hopefully you'll get something out of it, if your crying exists and continues for longer than 4 hours please seek medical attention as crying is not for everyone. Please ask your doctor before you prescribe yourself some cry and think twice before burdening these emotions onto someone else, as they too will have to deal with your shit.

ps...stop cutting onions and you might fix your problem. :smoker:

Actually, the evidence that crying is cathartic is mixed and is subjective in its application. In the Journal of Social and Clinical Psychology, Vol. 27, No. 10, 2008, pp. 1165-1187., researchers found that in some cases, crying did not lead to the release of emotional tension or a purging of the emotion that lead to the event. You can actually find the report here and it's a really interesting read for anyone that wanted to look in to it.

I don't necessarily agree that a doctor is needed either. The use of pharmacueticals is really widespread and really not warranted unless the feelings you are experiencing lead you to be miserable or cause problems in other portions of your life. If crying makes you feel better, and isn't effecting your relationships or your jobs, then the only person it's impacting is you and it has a positive effect by releasing your emotions. If it is effecting other things and is making you sad and not releasing those emotions, you should be confiding those issues with friends or loved ones and seeking either their guidance or help. Maybe a doctor is the answer, but the first step is to understand that while a lot of INTP (including myself 98% of the time) think they are independent and can solve everything themselves, it is not the case and you are better off asking for help than floundering around on your own struggling when you don't have to. That's one of the hardest things I've had to learn, and I still trip myself up all the time.

If there is something triggering it, or if it is interrupting your life then by all means you should see someone about it. It's isn't always cathartic and could be a sign that something else is wrong either physically, emotionally or chemically.

What do you mean 'crying'? Sometimes when I feel uncomfortable in a social situation my eyes start to water, and people sometimes might think I'm crying. There is no sadness associated with this eye watering though.

Hey, in my experience, it's not so much a problem (as in, it's not pathological, just rlly wierd), it's usually because I'm in my head too much.
I find it helps to be more social, and realise the effect you have on people. Because you do actually have an effect an people, and you are, in fact, part of this world. Weird, huh?
You don't need to cry or try to feel.
Explore that Ne, give it more rein. I does lead down a messed up, but then, it might make you more in touch with reality.
Hope this helps!

It sounds normal, it happens to me sometimes as well. I find simply eating a proper dinner with carbs and protein makes it happen less and can make it stop. Sleepdeprivation and to little food generally intensifies negative emotions. If your a woman it could be hormonal according to your menstrual cycle, sometimes it is like that for me. Then it is good to remember it is just your body playing tricks on you and not trying to find some problem in your life to pin the crying on.
