Before I look it up I'll take a wild stab in the dark here and guess that NASA plans to send people to Mars?

Edit: Oh that http://2045.com/

It's nice to see the rest of the world catching up on my ideas.
C'mon I've been talking about this for how long now?

Of course he will, even if the BCI technology isn't ready a (living) isolated brain could be kept in an induced coma and nobody knows how long the brain can live in stasis like this, I'm willing to bet fifty years at minimum, I'd stake my life on it :D

If you are asking because you are becoming weary of aging, I suggest you pick up on religion. If you accept the Lord, you will recieve eternal bliss and/or an endless supply of ice-cream in paradise. The Lord loves all his children, be it vanilla or chocolate.

PS (snafu): I'm not religious whatsoever. I'm swedish for gods sake.

The self-benefit of martyrdom or good acts, if only after death, appears to blunt the potency and/or sincerity of a theist's goodness. If the theist is after heaven, all good becomes self-interested.

Nope

Nope, didn't know about that group, I'll check it out

Yes I hope so and am working hard at it. Both my parents lived (one is still alive) until their 80's. I'll be 79 in 2045 and have been far more careful with my health so it should be possible (see the Ask Architect thread for details).

A 60 W lightbulb running for a day uses 5.184 MJ (megajoules). A human consuming 2500 calories in a day uses 10.46 kJ (kilojoules). I'm pretty sure robot bodies, the best case holograms, or even just an electronic brain with a download of the biological brain will be more power hungry then a 60W light bulb.

I just can't see our infrastructure nor mechanical devices being reliable enough for widespread digital transition. Machines are less durable over long periods of time then biology is, particularly when unattended. Imagine how much effort would be involved in monitoring all the hardware to digitally support even a realitively small population of digital sentience.

Honestly I think integrating digital computers with biology will be the most powerful combination. There are issues with that but once we are able to bridge the two it will be epic.

I think genetic engineering is a far more likely world changing technology by 2045 then digital transference. DNA data storage, bio-computing structures, genetic disorder fixing, disease fighting, DNA transcription error repair are all a possibility by 2045.

My mom lived until 81 and she smoked every day of her adult life. 'Just' a single cigarette, but gardening was her main hobby and she always ate lots of vegetables too. Because of this and other reasons my contention is that even if you just make sure to eat a lot of vegetables, along with meat or whatever, you'll do fine.

Mhmm, and how much does running a light bulb for 24 hours cost?

Still I'm amazed by how little energy the body uses :phear:

That's not what I'm talking about, it's certainly a long term goal, but in the short term it's far simpler to have the brain disconnected from the body and kept alive on artificial life support. Think of it this way, if any of your major organs don't work perfectly it affects the function of your other organs and the problem gets progressively worse until your death, whereas a brain's artificial life support system may have a dozen pumps running in parallel so even if half of them failed simultaneously (a truly catastrophic/unlikely failure if they're all functioning independently) there's still blood being supplied to the brain, you'll still survive.

This would be done for all the major organs required to keep the brain alive, so a system is set up with multiple layers of fail-safes so unless everything fails at once (which would be incredibly unlikely) you can't die, at least not that way, the brain will still get older and older but of all the organs in our bodies the brain is the most "over engineered" in other words it's designed to last and if kept in optimal conditions would likely last far longer than the natural body would allow.

@Architect

I eat butternut squash, broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, peppers, and occasionally sweet potatoes throughout the day. For me, protein is pretty necessary; so, I get that from eggs and occasionally meat. I also really like cod liver oil and cheese (in moderation). No junk food (chips, ice cream, etc.) and no man-made fats. How does this diet sound to you? I definitely think more clearly after the cod liver oil (quality source; nitrogen sealed), and I rely on the stuff for Vitamin D and DHA. May I ask, though, why do you subscribe to the diet you do? Decreased risk of heart disease? Higher percentage of vitamins, phytonutrients and minerals? The way it makes you feel? How does it make you feel? For me, I'm considering moving more away from meat, but I feel somewhat ragged without some meat. I definitely think more clearly with a high protein diet, but it seems like undue suffering to animals. It's hard to reconcile diet with ethics, especially on a tight budget.

Your diet sounds pretty good. I would suggest dropping all cheese which shouldn't be hard to do. Shifting to a high nutrient plant based diet has more benefits and after a few months you wouldn't notice the difference probably.

I do it for all the reasons above. The research shows it to be the optimal health supporting diet, and my personal experiments have overwhelmingly shown it too.

Hopefully i'll be dead by then. But as two of my grandparents was over 95, one still alive. She became an drunk at 75, and lost her mind and replaced it with anger from 85, it may be a long wait. My grandfather smoked his last pipe at 95. Smoked the whole life daily. So maybe that's what I will be doing, smoking and drinking. Maybe I can make it to a 120, if unlucky, as I usually am.

My dad's also been a smoker and drinker all his life -- he was coughing up blood in his 30's from smoking issues and almost died of alcohol poisoning in 2005. But now he'll be 71 and is still alive.

I joke that basically he's become a piece of smoked beef jersey saturated in formaldehyde and will live forever at this rate.

.... As far as me in 2045? I'll be 77. Might as well die on Mars at that point, if anywhere, having donated my body to science.

I will be 60 years old and president of the world. (maybe vice president) Stage one of going out with a bang. I plan to live until at least 120. That will be the year 2105 this is the year I will findly blow up the blasted Sun. surprisingly enough it will also be the year I will die. I would guess with in minutes of blowing up the sun.

I'll be 54 and probably only be a little more than halfway through my life (unless there is a revolution in geriatrics, which is very plausible). Just about everyone in my dad's side of the family (the side I take after the most) lives well into their late 90s and eventually kills themself one way or another once they get tired of being so old. The running joke is that we're secretly immortal, and it's more of a curse than a blessing.

Something like 8 minutes, I think.

Almost enough time to order a cappucino and savor it, unless the line is too long.

Well it looks like this enlightenment thing isn't so hard after all. :D

@Absurdity

It's incredibly easy to spot after you experience it. I explain it as seeing through the moment to moment myth making of ego-mind.

There's no conception of ego-mind as trap or self-limiting modality beforehand, however.

At any rate, Hinduism and Buddhism are very good at distilling concepts. :^^:

Sweet well at least I will be able to celebrate only Easter birthday on
April 25, 2038.

Unless of course this destruction will happen on January 1, 2038 in which case I demand that it waits another 4 months.

Most likely meany advents are likely to happen in 2045, and I am sure more than a few people have predicted some event for 2045.

However you are looking for two particular evens of importance (in your perspective).

Honestly, don't know you so any guess is quite literally a shoot in the dark. Therefore I chose to amuse myself with the possibility of a date 32 years in the future. I am sure much will change as much has already changed form 1981 up-til the present.

You said Mr. white was close to being right and he mentioned that he had another 10-20 years to live after 2045. I figure if the concept was more focused around you and dealing with a more define point in life (i.e. the end of life) maybe that would tell what you were looking for. Sorry like I said just shooting in the dark.

But, you being you Mister @Architect I believe you're referring to the law of accelerating returns, computing a technological singularity in the year.... yes, you've guessed it, 2045.

Ha! You picked 2045 because you believe that the singularity will come in 2045! You keep mentioning how you just need to stick it out until the singularity comes, bringing immortality via mind-uploading, and even you've posted a plan for surviving the singularity. Both of these facts, while not forming a complete proof, indicate that you very likely suspect the singularity to occur in 2045 and have therefore selected the date of "Where will you be in ____" based on that idea!

QED!

Excellent, second place. My small research into this leads me to believe 2045 is a good date to put it at.

And he posted this around his 2045th post, it's a sign that it's going to happen!

Third place, good work.

As you point out Mr Write was also close when he noticed 2^11. The small problem being that number changes dynamically as I post, but as long as it's ballpark.

I will be, hopefully, retired,. soaking up what's left of nature in a more remote area, with my wife, enjoying the last remnants of quiet and stillness before the great change.

Now as we like to fantasize in our heads, nothing quite tickles my brain better then fantasizing about living forever. I like to think that those who are alive will be transformed, mentally, we'll become finally looking outward towards the universe and not inward at ourselves anymore.

We'd band into groups, with our biological bodies that have been supplemented and infused with unobtainium-like chemicals created by our advanced technological cohorts. In our groups, we'd have the ability to move anywhere as we please, we travel to distance planets and play 'Adam and Eve' so to speak. We could start civilizations, spread our seed,. ect. Over time I think human nature would still play a factor and we'd have galactic scale differences, good areas, bad areas.

Since time wouldn't be a problem due to our seemingly endless lifespans, I'd like to think that we'd need a world of mortals with us to keep our daily lives entertained, allowing us to spend lifetimes to ourselves researching problems, creating works of art, digging the depths of the planet. We could also mingle with the world and create empires, introduce unbeknownst technology into the population and watch the world evolve with it.

I very much like the idea of being an immortal being in a created world. I would still love to have the council of those few that came with me, from Earth, that I could always visit, spend time with, talk about our old lives, exclaim about our current achievements and have the ability to pickup and go elsewhere, maybe visit other old-human worlds, see what they've done.

I could stick this fantasy in my head and dream about it for the rest of my life, I think I just might, makes me look forward to a more promising everlasting future.

I don't understand this desire for immortality. Even absent the the wear of old age, I'd imagine living would get pretty boring after a few centuries. Seinfeld reruns are only good so many times.

Is it from a fear of dying? That seems like a silly thing to be afraid of. Fear of a painful death? Go out on your own terms.

What is it?

Actually people who talk about this say it as "live as long as you like" instead of "living forever". The key point is that 60-80 years (say), with a mere 30 or so in your prime isn't enough.

I like the idea of immortality and yes maybe a small part of that is death. However, for me it has much more to do with continuing my learning process. I am sure I will not figure out everything before me death. As long as there is more to learn I want to wait around and learn it. I don't think I would get bored but possible someday I may want to die.

That makes more sense.

Wait, you don't hit your prime until you're 40-50?! And here I was in my early 20s thinking it would all be downhill from here. :D

I assume that with the much anticipated limitless lifespan of cyborghood would come a god-like intellect. Seems like that would take the fun out of solving most puzzles. Or perhaps it would just allow us to tackle puzzles we can't even begin to fathom?
