Virtual Table Top Role Playing Game

The virtual board I'll be using: Roll20.net
The rule set I'll be using: Pathfinder

As of yet the setting and story are undetermined but it will be a fantasy game because there are a wealth of free assets and the most intuitive systems (see above) are built around that genre, be warned I have a penchant for horror and a sick sense of humor.

I'm looking for people who are interested in playing a weekly session on the weekend, the time is negotiable, if you are interested please come up with a name, select your race/class then post it here and we will go into more detail with the first session which will be the 28/29th of June (not this weekend, the one after).

Also post a picture of your character, a found one is fine, a head or bust with no visible weapons or armor is ideal as this will become your token avatar.

I'm interested. I'm reluctant to commit to more than a formal expression of interest until more is known.

Wizard - (probably necromancer)
Gregory Spointerhosen
Probably human, probably fat.

I'd be porting him from second edition. It'll be sad to see him taken from his former glory in (presumably) a lower level campaign. I'll probably need to stop rollplaying so hard since necros are dirt in pathfinder. :rip:

What is the setting? Just so that I can prepare the character.
Will the form of this be similar to a video conference?
Yes.

The setting is yet unknown, think typical fantasy, I will build a story and setting around the sort of characters people want to play.

There will be voice chat & text, maybe video if people are really keen.
Really keen = dressing up for the occasion.

This is what inspired me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cOgS7SVTa-g

There's a series of these and they're really entertaining.

As a tutorial for myself I'm doing a rip-off of the same bar which isn't show in this video but appears in the really fucking long uncut version.
Just a tutorial, originality coming soon.

Um, what's your preference?

Pot calling the cauldron black much?

Anyway this much of the story has been decided: You're mercenaries for the bad guy.

So now is backstory time, can all players please come up with a backstory which at least should be things like how you were raised, what your last job was, your faith or lack thereof and your character's personal aspirations.

DO NOT TELL ANYONE!!!
Except me of course :D

You'll get plenty of time in-game to introduce yourselves and that's something I really want you to do in-character, after all unless you work it out with me privately beforehand you're all going mercenaries who haven't worked together before, indeed this may be your first time killing for money.

I usually use a 20-25 point spread. What level? Starting gold? Etc

I already had the character but will just wind her back to the right level.

It will take a few days to deliver.

We can, hopefully, work something unusual out, I have some interesting ideas for my Eidolon.
I usually use a 20-25 point spread.
7-1(7 rolls, keep 6) dice with average 3.5 per roll give 24.5, so anything below that can be called weak stats. 25 is reasonable, although I'm used to playing 32.

It really depends on the GM and on the challenge he sets, we could be heroic with 20 point buy, still nice numbers for the mage are high.

I'm thinking level 1 because I'm inexperienced and you're starting as a bunch of foxes in a chicken coop, aside from the pay offered by the BBEG everything within the town is yours to pillage.

Table: Starting Character Wealth
Class Starting Wealth Average
Alchemist 3d6 × 10 gp 105 gp
Barbarian 3d6 × 10 gp 105 gp
Bard 3d6 × 10 gp 105 gp
Cavalier 5d6 × 10 gp 175 gp
Cleric 4d6 × 10 gp 140 gp
Druid 2d6 × 10 gp 70 gp
Fighter 5d6 x 10 gp 175 gp
Gunslinger 5d6 x 10 gp 175 gp
Inquisitor 4d6 × 10 gp 140 gp
Magus 4d6 × 10 gp 140 gp
Monk 1d6 × 10 gp 35 gp
Ninja 4d6 × 10 gp 140 gp
Oracle 3d6 × 10 gp 105 gp
Paladin 5d6 × 10 gp 175 gp
Ranger 5d6 × 10 gp 175 gp
Rogue 4d6 × 10 gp 140 gp
Samurai 3d6 × 10 gp 105 gp
Sorcerer 2d6 × 10 gp 70 gp
Summoner 2d6 × 10 gp 70 gp
Witch 3d6 × 10 gp 105 gp
Wizard 2d6 × 10 gp 70 gp

See the original table at this site: http://www.d20pfsrd.com/basics-ability-scores/character-creation

For example: Rogue 4d6 × 10 gp 140 gp
Red is the class, yellow is how your starting gold is calculated and green is the average result of this calculation, not necessarily what you will get.

Is is to buy your starting gear, no magic items.
I'm pretty sure class equipment just comes with your class, you don't need to buy it.

Seconded.

It's not a power level thing. It's a boredom thing. There's nothing worse than knowing that if you cast your one spell you've got nothing else to do for the rest of the day.

That said, pathfinder does a better job of mitigating this than previous editions.

If you need help with anything, I've done a brief stint DMing a pathfinder campaign. I was largely making it up as I went along but I may have some insight to share.

You get 20 points to spend on abilities, to be spent as you wish.

Since Jennywocky and Hadoblado have some prior experience and the ability scores are going to be reasonably high you can now expect the occasional guardsmen mixed in with the ragtag militia. I'm talking about a Helm's deep scenario here, mostly boys and old men defending a small fort-town, they're no match for the professional killers outside but very well entrenched.

Are you trying to get raped by an Orc?

The orc is a gentleman at heart, I am sure. :D (He's certainly not just another pretty face.)

Considering my hex and spell list, though, would you ever want to piss off a witch?

How difficult a campaign are you planning? Will I need to min-max or can I afford to be lax with my point distribution?

Do you mind if I just take the average gold for a wizard (70)?
If not
-> Do you trust me to be honest?
If not
-> Could you please roll 2d6 for me plzty!:p

4 and 3

Hold on how does two six sided dice get 70? At all, let alone on average

How difficult a campaign are you planning? Will I need to min-max or can I afford to be lax with my point distribution?
Depends, I'm planning on running a sandbox style game in which world events happen around you and your objectives are whatever feels right for your character, once I get a gist of who your character is I can tailor things a bit more.

It's multiplied by 10. You rolled it for me exactly.

And campaign difficulty? How ruthless are you? My current DM is quite possibly the hardest man on earth.

Minmax it is :)

So long as I get to multiply the 7 by 10, there's no need. Seventy is plenty. :cat:

Oh yeah I forgot to mention I'll be awarding bonus experience for good roleplaying, which is anything I find particularly interesting, funny, dramatic or simply well performed "in character" dialogue.

Whether you minmax or not doesn't matter to me but what it means to you is that the more specialised you are the more reliant you'll be on your fellow players, your call.

I would but I've only 7 strength you chubby little rogue!

Edit: Minmaxing is when you sacrifice versatility for specialisation/power.

An ADC or tank being examples.

In my case it means sacrificing utility for survivability, as a wizard without con/dex in a difficult campaign is not a person in a place you want to find yourself.
I can help you with your character and stuff, or you could ask Benjo Billy Thomson if you want me to not know things.

Standard nowadays is you get max on level 1 (to prevent the 1-hit-point wonders who won't live out the day).

For following levels, typically you either use the die roll or you do the "average" rule (i.e., a 4 on a d6), and the GM scales to it, right?

Kostnica.eu, if you have trouble setting up an account I can make you one. It's in Polish ;).

Click "Załóż Konto" to create an account, then proceed after email confirmation "Zaloguj się" for login
"Rzucaj" is the roll option, then you get the link.

One that has an account log, character log and easy linking option with comments.

Go by the class average for GP and no funny business, I will check everything once the game starts and if I catch anyone trying to fudge the numbers they'll be poorer for it.

Please source your equipment here:

Tell me what you want and I'll do all the setup.

I'm sourcing everything in Hero's Lab -- it's already got all the rules and data ported into it. It should match whatever is online in open source, i guess -- they get all their data straight from the official Pathfinder rules.
