So, after mentioning it in my introduction, I'm gonna post this and ask: what do you guys think of Mr. Robot, particularly in the context of all this MBTI fun stuff. Not that I'd necessarily type Elliot (I'm not good at typing myself much less other people) but when I watched that movie I was terrified at how good and reflective of some parts of my life it was.

If you haven't watched it, check it out. I haven't watched something so intently since Breaking Bad or maybe The Wire.

Yeah.

Yeah, it's a good show.
I'd type him as INTP but I'm not that good at typing. Plus he cries and complains too much for an INTP.

Funny thing is, I thought he seemed more autistic or aspergers, versus thinking about type. But that's kind of an answer; we've had a ton of threads here on that and mbti type.

Great show, and great performance by the lead.

I can never get into these shows. I'm supposed to accept the premise that he's some amazing hacker that knows how to hack almost anything, but I know the reality is that hacking usually requires mass amounts of information and other people to help or some really sophisticated baiting software that gets the information for you.

I guess it's not believable enough for me.

Also, he seems like he's always high and his voice sounds like Batman. So I can't stop imagining he's Batman on marijuana.

I guess I got nothing good to say, oh well.

Hell, I'd watch Batman on marijuana.
(Or meth or peyote.)

Although then it might be more of a comedy.

In this case it's actually really good, I think they have some good consultants. From memory ...

  • TOR/Hidden service hack The child abuse/porn coffee shop owner. It's easy to leak information from servers unless you really know what you're doing, even when a hidden service. It's very possible for him to figure it out, and once he gets a hint of a possible local hidden service he could even do traffic correlation tests since he's inside the network.
  • Police car Bluetooth hack Yep pretty easy
  • Bad USB Hack. I don't think you even need a Ducky, it looked like just a stupid Windows .ini
  • CDROM Hack. This one has to be an .ini attack
  • Arduino/PI Climate control hack. Trivial, if the climate control is wired up through ethernet that way which is unusual. Typically the system for the warehouse would be separate and disconnected from the building system. But, given the premise it's OK.
  • Social Engineering Hacks. All good stuff here.
  • Deep Sound CD sure why not?
  • Honey Pot OK but I don't get the point of this? Is the HP somehow blocking the hackers? But points for knowing about HP's
  • General web sites ProtonMail/etc, hey they bothered to find something plausible!

On the downside the only bad one was the head Chinese hacker. First it wasn't an actual Faraday cage (OK few people have ever been in one), but two it's stupid. The woman actually meets him at an industrial address in person, blocking RF is pointless. And the thing about 'hacking time' was rather stupid.

Overall a great, refreshing show.

Oh okay. I think I only saw the first episode, maybe the second. I didn't give it a chance I guess.

It's only episode 2 and already two chicks have invaded his room and got undressed in there, practically against his will.

Wait, who's the second one? There's Shayla, his drug dealer, and who else? I either have a very bad memory or it was just her.

I don't remember if Darlene is in there naked... I think she might shower/sleep there but it's been awhile since I saw it. What about Angela, his friend?

... heh, it wasn't whiterose.

Yeah right, Darlene often showered there. That's really quite invasive, but I imagine I would react in pretty much the same way. I find it really hard to get angry.

It makes a lot of sense, given the plot...

It was quite a good show, even if it felt like it lost steam after that reveal. Surely one of the best of 2015. Well made and with timely subject matter. I liked the musical choices and the pervasive sense of paranoia/madness. Looking forward to next season.

Oh heh, I guess I only watched about 1/4 of the first episode and stopped. But it got a lot better after that. This is a pleasant surprise. Need a new show to watch. :)

Um, wow. Even though I didn't like the show at first, it has some of the best writing and character development I've ever seen. I'd say this is better than House of Cards at this point.

I think Elliot is likely Tyrell. Elliot is God, Mr. Robot the Prophet, and Tyrell is his original personality, the one caught in the middle trying to reconcile his mental splits. All of them came to an 'agreement' to do what they did. The only thing I'm not sure about is why Gideon seems to think they are two people, so maybe it's wrong. But maybe there is an explanation for that.

I look forward to the next season :)

I'm glad you ended up liking it. There's some crazy stuff near the end of the season with Tyrell that seems totally nutso, but really, the writing and acting is very strong... especially from actors I haven't really seen before (except of course Slater). I really want to see what the showrunner does with it next season.

Season 2 is great. I'm hoping Tyrell is alive and his wife's ability to freak Elliot out makes sense at some point. Considering what happened in the last episode that made Mr Robot disappear, it'll be really ...interesting to see how he ties in with Elliot.

Mr. Robot or did you mean modern Fight Club the tv series?

Love the production and casting.

Disappointed that some of the action scenes used noticeable prop/fake weapons even some sloppy CGI for the only shootout scene.

Hacking is just social engineering. It gets easier and easier to hack the better you are at talking to other humans.

noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

This is no where even close to being Fight Club. Yeah, there's the whole mind-fuckery thing going on with Elliot, but just about all the main characters have developed as the show has gone on. The philosophical and existential aspect is interesting. Fight Club was all into the macho and seeing the world as this sick, sad entity that encompassed and corrupted people's lives. Mr. Robot is never sure what it's showing you. It's soooo much better.
