I have a deep enduring love for can be done creatively with 2-d animation given proper talent and love for the content.

Even amateur stuff can be fucking stellar. 2:09 gives me chills.

Cool video. I'm curious how it was made. Do you know anything about it?

3-D is cool in its own way, but seeing line work is the magic of 2-D work.
It creates contrast, and clear motion in a way that isn't present in most 3-D work.

In other news, I watched Redline For the first time today. Really, I should've seen it long ago. I can't believe pretty much the entire thing was hand drawn. It's gorgeous. rip all those poor animators and their dead hands.

I've seen blips of Redline, but I should try to find a way to watch the whole thing.
Where did you watch it?

Well of course. Pixar animation films like Up aren't automatically better because they're newer. And it's not just nostalgic value. I didn't like Redline that much even though its animation style was "unique". It seemed boring and slow although I now plan on watching it again to make sure. I don't always just like stop go motion in live action films or other experimental techniques used for SFX or visual effects. Stuff like Ralph Bakshi or regular cartoons can be good, then.
Stanislav Grof said he liked animation and wished he never gave it up.

um, if you haven't seen "pear cider and cigarettes" i would recommend you do so. it certainly got oscar nominated for a reason.

Well the video you posted was pretty good and an example of trippy anime or "normal teenager" stuff, like Tatami Galaxy if you can see how Redline is similar to it. It had kind of an "acid feel" to it but wasn't quite psychedelic. Still, it had a lot of more ironical parts to it like the gunshots or bug getting splat with the robots there too walking in the background or riding through with mechanical means. It gave it the "dystopian" look that some anime could have. I think they find a lot of the animators online too from YouTube to work on studio animations from popular budget networks. I'm not sure how you'd fill in the blanks to get all that out of that, but a lot of it isn't how it actually is. LSD isn't really "psychedelic" except at higher doses it gets more like it, whereas psilocybin containing mushrooms are psychedelic, and so is DMT because it's just psilocybin without the hydroxy group on 4C atom (namely for psilocin, with psilocybin being 4-PO-DMT, or 4-phosphoryloxy-dimethyltryptamine, which readily metabolizes to psilocin in vivo). Mushrooms are millennia years old, perhaps billions, whereas acid is moderately new but still a tryptamine, so it more so uploads your consciousness to the cosmic unconsciousness and puts you more into tune with pop culture and mushrooms make it feel like a radio antenna signal is beaming into your head from another star system or energy/vibratory patterns out in space. They also give you access to the Akashic Records as they'd say, which I suppose is pretty psychedelic in its own right.
