On my way to success.
Hey,

I've been a little on and off since I joined. I like some of the threads here, but it seems like it takes for ever for people to respond. Either that, or I typically kill the threads I reply to.

So to narrow this down further: How's the activity on this site? How many users are actually active?

Off-the-cuff, I'd say there's probably 25-30 posters who post fairly regularly, and then occasional posts from others. I could be off a bit, I'm just eyeballing it.

When do you guys use the chatbox? it seems either sporadic or a flood.

I'm here sporadically or in a flood.

I read often several times a day, but I only post like once- twice a week in average. I think mostly what I have to say is usually covered by others or redundant, so I don't post.

I guess a lot of the regulars don't make many new topics themselves, but reply if they have something to say about another person's topic.

As for the time it takes to reply... I think some spend quite some time formulating their thoughts and trying to make a clear point. So they need to have the time and quiet to do so, which means it might take a few days from reading it to actually replying.

If you post, they will come

I swear to smeg, the chatbox is an elusive beast. I show up, and nothing is going on, though it's clear that something fun is happening before my arrival and after departure. Is there some kind of "Yellow Alert System" that keeps you people safe from chatting with me?! :phear:

Well, yes and no.

No, there is no official or universal "Yellow Alert System" for determining your presence.

But yes, I believe a good number of people who frequent the chat, myself included, have their own personal, homemade methods of detecting your imminent chatbox presence.

:D

We could assign a 20 minute period for chatboxing and just have people congregate at that time. Like right at 4:00 or something. Except we suck at promptness, there's a time difference, and I don't think there would be enough cares for people to come. Maybe 2 or 3 would show up.

Here's a yellow alert system. Use the yellow font when yellow joins chat.

Some statistics:
Forum has existed for over 8 years and 3 months(?).
During that time 11,263 users registered (quite a small number).
More than 10% of all users have been banned.
Less than 40% of all not banned users made it over 100 posts and so by this it can be said that more than 50% of all users were lurkers or didn't post much.

I'm gonna assume the 10% = banned folk includes a lot of spammer types that just usually get banned ASAP?

If everyone saw what the gang is up to there would be no gang to see. What are you up to?

Working and playing computer games. By all means people are free and event invited to play computer games with me.

Forum user activity follows basically the same pattern as volcano activity.

Some are highly active and erupt frequently.
Some are often rumbling or lurking in the depths of the Earth, but their presence is seldom felt.
Some are simply extinct.
Some are dormant, but burst forth with unparalleled fury at unexpected times before returning to dormancy.
Some are always there, always active but never quite erupting.

Moderators are basically meteorites.

Regional, probably.

Followed by Oubliette and Visual Art, I'd say.

Those ones are always hopping, to use the parlance of our time.

I only log in to post, but since I don't post much I lurk more often than not (infrequent - 1-3 times a week).

I'd probably hire you as a jester if i was rich and fully dressed.
here, I always thought that once one was to the point of hiring a jester, you'd be at a "clothing-optional" stage of life.

Well you clearly haven't been to the "hiring a jester" stage of life because believe me clothing is very much non-optional.

The optional clothing stage comes two or three stages after the jester stage, it's just that many people who reach that stage tend to retain their jesters, which is ultimately why you see a lot of naked slave-own-- I mean naked jester employers.

That explains why Jabba the Hutt was always shown in nothing but his birthday suit.

I tend to come on when I'm feeling particularly bored or confident. I'm not nearly as active as I wish I was, which is probably a good thing. I spend more than enough time doing things I enjoy as it is.

For my birthday, I'd like him to wear something else. *shudder*

*Jabba appears, wearing a skimpy, tight bikini which doesn't really leave anything to the imagination. You don't think his new outfit is necessarily an improvement*

My current location is classified.
I really wish I could post more, but with work, and other things, and the alien invasion, things have gotten tough. It's challenging to get aliens drunk enough to leave our atmosphere.

In all seriousness, I kind of post. I like to read certain threads, but not others. Some threads I read, others I don't. Usually I try to make my posts funny or worthwhile. I wish I had as much time to post and be with the community.

Considering our type, there will always be more lurkers than posters. I'm not sure what we expect from the forum, other than confirmation of our delusions.

Peekaboo!

This is the first time I've logged in since July 2014. So I'm a very inactive active user.

I got distracted with other things and had almost forgotten about the place until a random "INTPf was cool" memory occurred to me few weeks ago. I've been lurking fairly constantly since then looking for somewhere to jump back in.
