As I'm sure I've said about a zillion times on this forum, I'm planning to study animation next year. But whenever I tell people IRL this, I am asked 'Oh, is that like cartoons? Are you going to work for the Irish Times then?" Ugh.
This does not bode well for the artform I am hoping to pursue. People don't even know what it is, let alone respect it as a form of creative expression. But then again, I get the feeling that in a very agriculturally-centred setting, like the one I'm in, artforms and expression just isn't crossing people's minds as a subject that's worth intense thought and consideration. =P
So what do you think of animation as an artform? Prefer 2d, CG, stop-motion/claymation? What potential do you think the form has for communication? I'm really eager to hear this. I think it has a lot of potential, but I'll save my opinions since I don't want to influence what anyone says (yet ).
