I'm interested, how/where do I start?

Edit: Made an account as Cognascent, I don't have much time to grind but a casual hangout space interests me. Getting in wasn't difficult, it took about 5min to setup, I wonder what sort of people play runescape when there's World of Warcraft and Final Fantasy XIV available.

So apparently you can bet on pvp matches with in-game currency. I know someone that claims to have bought $10,000 worth of in-game currency and lost it all betting on matches, lol. I feel bad for him, but at the same time that's hilarious for a video game.

[Boop, that may be hard. Runescape is the definition of a grinding game. It's also a very social hang out place(more than any other game according to Sete.) The communication tools within the game are top notch for promoting socialisation.]

[So 90% of the game is grinding and socialising. Try a few quests(turning off all guides/item lists ingame). Runescape has by far the best quest system of any game according to us. Our name there is also Seteleechete(he stopped playing but we may start again.)]

Back in 2006 it was people who didn't have an actual gaming pc or couldn't pay for subscriptions. RS ran perfectly fine on integrated graphics, often it was the network quality that was the problem. And when I got a debit card for my birthday I was the point man at my school for memberships. My dumb self sold a green h'ween @11-13mil. I completely quit when they switched to the new combat in RS3, changed the holiday events, and allowed gambling/p2w.

This is probably one of the most epic clan war videos ever in all rpgs:

It's really a unique experience to be a part of that I don't think many games can replicate.

RS for me was a means for socializing with people rather than actual gameplay. The problem is that the more i socialize irl, the less the need for me to play the game. I like the relaxed nature of RS grinding though. I sometimes offer my roommate to grinding Diviniation and Prayer skills.

Played it over a decade ago for a few years. It's been through many changes but supposedly its been restored to one of its more enjoyable, older versions.

The social element was, indeed, one of the best aspects of the game.
The combat system was broad, and there were, or are, several, distinct games which were centered around it, with different degrees of risk.

The economic system was also engaging, however, over time, many restrictions were put in place on trade (e.g. high value items could no longer be traded without adequate compensation, a central bank which determined the cost of items) supposedly as a measure against hackers and scammers, and what not.

I thought the frustrations associated with the existence of those types made the game all the more exciting. One had to take a risk when trusting another player. One had to be careful not to be fooled by others. Jagex deciding to babysit its members from dangers ultimately led to the degradation of the game at a certain point in time.
