Does hanging really make you grow taller?

Well, there's potential there. If you follow an intense stretching routine for 6 months or so, you'll gain half an inch in height or so.

So that's 1 hour being stretched, and about 12 to 16 hours being squished back down again by the pull of gravity when you are standing or sitting...

I actually read a manga with moon people, and they were all really tall, for the whole gravity reason, and that the only reason we are the average height we are is because our bone mass wouldn't be able to support our bodies if they were any more thinned out.

It's also a big thing in the Ender's Shadow series, because Bean doesn't stop growing, he has to go out into space so he doesn't die. This may also explain why people with Giantism or whatever have so many health issues.

I apologize for this probably not being as helpful as you would like it to be, but they are examples of other people who have thought about it, in the end I doubt the stretching would work, for the very reason Adymus stated.

EDIT: to avoid a double post, I read the article you linked, and yes it appears they published an article on how it will help you grow, the exercises seem to only affect the back, and i would guess that it would be more about loosening the vertebrae rather than actually making you grow.

it is likely you could get the same result without hanging around like a monkey, although it's probably less fun.

also, I doubt this would add more than a quarter inch to your height even if it worked

EXACTLY! The thing is that I am trying to prove the complete opposite: That hanging does not help.

EDIT: The reason that Adymus supplied is something I already knew, both by research and personal thought/ reasoning, so despite how true and logical it is, that alone isn't going to convince my mom. Need something more, and yes, the other answer that the article only referred to the back was also something that I had already pointed to my mother.

Note: My mom is an ISFJ. Maybe this whole thing is a waste of time after all. *sigh*

Despite how old this thread is, I feel I should point out that when the term "hanging" is used, it is generally a good rule of thumb that you should always specify what type of hanging, particularly when referring to something your mother told you to do which you fear you will have to do if you don't come up with a good counterargument.
