Freenet is probably even more dengerous in terms of how indestructible the system is. It's decentralized. Since Freedom Hosting was shut down by the FBI, there's like... nothing on Tor anymore. I just lurk around Freenet mostly. never bothered with I2P since it's kinda crappier.

You have to set up Tor as a relay. It may be set on by default. It's courteous to do and it strengthens the network. Relays are perfectly safe to run.

It's dangerous to run an exit node though. These should be run by more trusted services or in coutries where they're allowed to run them and won't be legally liable. What happens if you run an exit node is that the encrypted data that was bounced around a few times by someone on the Tor network sends the unencrypted data to the final node (the exit node can read it, but still doesn't know the IP address which it originated from), because, duh, it needs to be unencrypted to be sent to an ISP which handles the Internet TCP/IP and stuff. After all, Tor is only an anonymyzing proxy. A proxy is the only thing it is good at doing, or it can also be used as a transparent proxy or in a VM. I don't have much info about that though.

So yeah, if Bob Joe searches for child pornography on the Tor network and it ends up at an exit node that you run, don't be surprised if the police come knocking at your door, thinking it was you who searched for it.

That infograph is bullshit. They just threw together complicated sounding stuff and passed it off as truth. The deepweb is just any websites that aren't catalogued by google.
