How to "think"

I heard from a friend that had just returned from an exchange to South-America that she had started dreaming in spanish by being there so long. I didn't understand, because I don't think or dream in any language, I just do it on a conceptual level. Sometimes it is manifestly visual, but it can also be some abstraction that cannot be visualized in 3D. Only when communicating with the outside world, I translate my thoughts into language.
So it seems imagination is my proper response to your poll.

All 3. I think in words (if alone, these are expressed as voices) when I'm thinking through ideas. Also, I work in a creative field (Architecture), so I've got a well developed visual/spatial imagination for that kind of problem solving - that is, I can imagine a spatial thought to a fairly good resolution in three dimensions and picture myself within it for scale. Also, im a lucid dreamer.

Words and voices. I never 'see'/'imagine' anything.

Words and voices are the same thing, I'd separate it into words, sounds and images instead.

In that case I use all 3. I rely on visuals less except when I'm in the process of designing/drawing something, solving spatial/memory puzzles or recalling memories of some kind.

I hesitate to answer because there's a host of biases when dealing with something so fundamental to the subject.

As i recall, much of my thinking consists of non-sequitur graphics in space, muted neon shapes flickering by - sometimes illustrating an ineffable concept geometrically but mostly just inexplicably accompanying the resulting output. Memory-based associative imagery is frequently involved too (especially when dealing with the social sphere, as i increasingly do at the expense of metaphysics), and i routinely dream up places (the word 'vista' seems appropriate for some stupid and likely vain reason) for reference. These, like the flickering shapes, often seem completely irrelevant to the resulting output, however closely correlated and however strongly the connection is felt. I suck at the kind of thinking that is deliberative, task-driven and readily translatable. It's more like i'm massaging my brain from within so that it's always prepared to respond with agility and clarity.

By the way i never did figure out how to qualitatively distinguish thoughts from emotions so my description goes for 'both'.

After spending time experiment and reading your responds. My second thought : Definitely go with "both" and maybe with some classical music.
This forum is very helpful to me. Thanks again.
