i haven't been posting much, or even visiting much, lately. life is life and so on and so forth.

but when i'm here, and i begin reading a thread -- any thread, but particularly the lengthier discussions -- i'll get about halfway through before losing all interest in the rambling, overly logical/nihilistic, often redundant dialogue. i just can't do it. some of your concerns seem so unconcerning to me. some of your thoughts so over-explained and over-produced.

something about me has changed. i no longer ponder the complexities of life. i just do what i can to sludge through the shit and enjoy the flowers that sometimes grow from it.

everything else just gives me a headache. it's not that i'm stupid or that i can't comprehend the concepts. i just don't care anymore. even though now i'll be alone for several months, with nobody here to distract me, i can't bring myself to care. i can't bring myself to focus.

i guess the moral of my story is this: drugs are bad, kids. don't do them, mmkay?

dang... i was gonna do some drugs later on today-within the next few days to the max since we're on vacation and seemingly have more free time than usual but i might not anymore since the moral of the story induces second guessing and every time i spend monies on a drug i regret doing so 2-3 hours after it had already been ingested alert

silly habit, drugs are for kids not adults it is

“Every day, think as you wake up: ‘Today I am fortunate to have woken up. I am alive. I have a precious human life. I am not going to waste it. I am going to use all my energies to develop myself, to expand my heart out to others, to achieve enlightenment for the benefit of all beings. I am going to have kind thoughts towards others. I am not going to get angry, or think badly about others. I am going to benefit others as much as I can’.”

Corrupting the youth!

We stone you for the offense!

Well, I guess it was fun while lasted. Hope you can find a community that fits you better. I guess I can try to revive the video thread by myself.

I am more like this after waking up:
oh man, why did I woke up? I want to sleep more. What am I even doing being alive. oh well whatever, it is a transient life, I am gonna totally waste it,
why struggle with my energies to develop myself, when I am not even the persona I am trying to develop.

Something about the human body being greatly resistant to what can be described as 'self improvement', assuming that it's valued for some reason, mainly other people will be averted from your presence knowing there hasn't been any recent developments. it's obviously merely like an rpg in which one levels up throughout time, although compounded by certain limitations.

say, we're all the same thing but it's slightly disappointed that we don't get to experience life through the eyes of a more seemingly ideal persona? they have it sure, but anyone can technically do anything, you know

Everyone here knows what you are talking about, and in honest moments would agree at least in principle. However, the masses cannot let you be independent in thought or deed without trying to either drag you back down to their level or Hasten your demise. It is all about the herd here. Either you are in or you are out of the clique.

To me it sounds like you have made a valid observation, and concluded this place limits you. I applaud your independent will. Good luck to you.

I am actually an intp. I don't like herds.
What's wrong with being in a herd? Even the most self-made independent recluse cannot admit that they don't belong in one or did not depend on one for survival unless they're delusional.

If you have your own ideas or belief systems then good for you; keep it up and I hope that you find your own way. However, that doesn't automatically make you an Übermensch that's too pure for this sinful earth.

I really think you're missing the point. The very nature of this site practically guarantees a somewhat high level of similarity in users BEFORE they get here. This site may not be representative of all INTP, but the fact remains that most users will seek out a site based on a feeling of common identity. If the tone of the site feels like a good fit, they're more likely to stay, and if it doesn't they are more likely to leave.

It's got nothing to do with herds. If there was a hive mind sort of thing going on, maybe I'd concede the point, but that really doesn't seem to be the case.

I got nothing against the OP's statements. As a new user, I'm not really embedded into this community at all, and even if I was, to each their own. I just don't understand how you so fundamentally misunderstand this basic and very common sort of forum dynamic.

Some of the posts are so long they try the patience - or trigger the ennui - of most of us. A 3,000 word response to a newbie feeling a little lonely or confused says more about the responder than it does the newbie's problem.
Not being judgmental, but the original poster seems to have identified clusters of threads on ideas he believes adequately expored, and therefore with no minable mental ore for his brain forge. Additionally other pockets of potential ore are covered by a deep overburden of fertilized word salad making recovery of the pay dirt time consuming.
Assume some validity to the complaint: If you write long (call it "two screens" or "800 words", edit yourself. If you write short (two sentences) go for four or eight sentences. That moves you one step up from "master of the obvious" to give a little context.
Ask yourself if the topic needs the response you have in mind, and if so, how long it should be.
Forbearance is both a virtue of skill; I will now be virtuously skillful and shut up.

Regarding not fitting in or losing interest over time, more than one person here feels or has helt the same way. If a club were made then do you think you would fit in?

Your original question was to ask "what is wrong with me". This is how a member of a herd singles out someone with a non-herd pov. Now you seek above to outline for all my wrong thinking. Applying peer pressure as it were. So rather than simply dismissing you and a young and ignorant Fe, I will give you and alternative thought and assume your Ti exists:

One can be a part of a forum without necessarily be part of the groups(s) that make up the forum community. 90% of the posts here have more to do with young people trying to learn themselves and nothing to do with being intp. While it is that they often couch the self examination with qualifiers like "do all intp dislike toads", the fact is the poster dislikes toads and is looking for acceptance/affirmation that he is either within the intp stereotype or his weirdness is ok with the herd. The herd, if accepting, will discuss the topic as reasonable or valid.

Exactly...

In any event, the OP is expressing these ideas in his/her own way.

No matter how much.

You're completely right. Most of the shit I've read here is just that. And I'm barely here, like 10min average a week.

But maybe, you ask for too much. Or rather looking for something in the wrong place. This 'community' is comprised of children, the confused, and fools who think WAY to highly of themselves. Why would anyone with something real to offer waste their time here?

What is it you want from this place? A sense of belonging? Enlightening discussion? Acknowledgement of you? Can you get those things here?

Fitting in. Does anyone really ever? Now just here but anywhere. The world and it's occupants are not tailored to your specifications.

When will you ever have enough? You are insatiable. You have consumed this place for all it has to offer, and you look at it's barren waste, hoping.

high school:

"you're weird"

"why do you talk like that?"

"you are gay"

college:

"i agree but..."

"you're so funny"

"oh my god i do that all the time too"

yep. that sums it up for me.

What hypocritical nonsense. He was not singling you out, or applying peer pressure. The fact that you extrapolated all that from what he said is more indicative of your own insecurity. One who feels the need for acceptance in a herd may be immature, but so is one who feels the need to insist he has transcended "the herd". In fact, the latter is more so.

I think how people frame things says more about their underlying priorities than the arguments they seem to be making... e.g., the choice to frame things in terms of a "herd vs independent loner" mentality. That's not necessarily how everyone frames interactions.

Your right bemused! This place is one of the best forums I know of! IN FACT, and I kid you not, this is the only place I post.

I mostly just lurk. I have very little to offer... and the spot light isn't for me.

And the reason for that is the very topic of this thread. I don't quite fit in anywhere else. Which I why this place is nice. We can not belong, TOGETHER!

On the subject of herd and echo chambers. Let me tell you wow, this place is an oasis of free thought, divergence is actually acceptable here. Now I'm not saying your free thoughts are worth a damn. But it's nice to see unique expressions, not get immediately shut down.

Why do people even come here if they think it's shit? Sounds like a lot of useless butthurt.

Regarding Op: it's a generational thing too. There are phases when one seeks answers to questions, doubts, or a sense of community validation, and there are phases when one reaches a degree of certainty and stability where one desires action rather than contemplation.

Valid question.

I think the value of a forum like this, is the insights of others on whatever your issue. Of course their will be complaining when somone disagrees with you. That's growing pains.

"fitting in" is not the point. Being validated is not the point. If you don't fit in, you are doing it right

This. It's interesting, however, that those phases often feel perpetual when you're in them.

It is all about the herd here. Either you are in or you are out of the clique.
I fail to see why this has any significance at all? Forum cliques just consist of certain users in the spotlight, that's it. Who cares?

Be oneself. Get mauled. Reexamine oneself. Change. Conform. Be oneself. Rise again. Get mauled again. Change. Fit in. Don't fit in. It's a process. Does it matter? Yes it does. No it doesn't.

At last, the usual contrarian post from pornotator. I am not singling me out either, though I am spinning the op into my observations. Yes by saying someone is incorrect, see you post here, you are attempting to validate you're own position by diminishing the the other's. The nature of forum debate usually btw... I have never claimed to transcend anything, herd included--self evident since I am here. The question "what is wrong with you" automatically assumes a divergence from perceived normalcy. There is nothing wrong with me, nor the motivation of the original post. What is wrong with noting the applied peer pressure inherent in most of the threads? And why do you choose often some follow up poster as a basis for your own ad hominem attacks on irrelevant details you choose to make central?
