Oh! Lmao- I know why... I copied and pasted a post that described clothing, a pair of lips and a neck in great detail! It's the same reason why you would get Mark Twain for typing "nigger."

*pastes a different blog entry*

Okay, now I get someone who wrote Consider the Lobster.

I fed it a post of mine from this forum and it told me "Cory Doctorow." I don't exactly know what that means. No matter. I already know how I write, correspondence anyway. Can't say I've written much fiction.

I have a few different writing styles because I have so many contexts in which I write. At least I thought I had a lot of styles. I got Vladimir Nabokov nearly across the board (my novel, work for my therapy clients, old grad work, etc.) In this (my only) forum, and in my one-off freelance writing jobs, it comes up with Dan Brown.

Sorry everyone. Looks like you've all gotten the short end of the stick with this.

It says that the lyrics to Gansta's Paradise write like William Gibson.

Killer Queen by Queen is reminiscent of James Joyce somehow.

LOL, after testing my own texts, I tried some paragraphs from Thus Spoke Zarathustra. It said Nietzsche writes like Shakespeare :ahh: . Anyway, I got Douglas Adams and Dan Brown for fiction writings, Lovecraft and Poe for nonfiction.

This is fun.

I took a chapter from the first book in my book series and got Arthur Clarke.

I took a chapter from a different, stand-alone title I wrote and got Cory Doctorow. Never heard of him. *looks through amazon page*

Ooooooo Very intriguing thread! 3 different writings, 3 different results:

Arthur Clarke - consensus is xNTx, some argue INTJ

H. P. Lovecraft - consensus is INTP or INFP

David Foster Wallace -consensus seems to be INTP maybe INFP

Perhaps, given all three, a pattern will emerge? Or is the link in the OP a joke/ scam?

"Sir Arthur Charles Clarke, CBE, FRAS (16 December 1917 – 19 March 2008) was a British - Sri Lankan science fiction writer, science writer and futurist,[3] inventor, undersea explorer, and television series host.

He is perhaps most famous for being co-writer of the screenplay for the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey, widely considered to be one of the most influential films of all time." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arthur_C._Clarke

"Howard Phillips Lovecraft (/ˈlʌvkræft, -ˌkrɑːft/;[1] August 20, 1890 – March 15, 1937) was an American author who achieved posthumous fame through his influential works of horror fiction." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H._P._Lovecraft

"David Foster Wallace (February 21, 1962 – September 12, 2008) was an American author of novels, short stories and essays, as well as a professor of English and creative writing. Wallace is widely known for his 1996 novel Infinite Jest, which was cited by Time magazine as one of the 100 best English-language novels from 1923 to 2005."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Foster_Wallace

The pattern emerging to me is:

INTPs generally. So check on this one (unless INTP is generic to most of the writers referenced on the OP link in which case this is an insignificant. I'm going to guess quite a few writers are generally INTP/ INFPs. So there is slight significance reasonably speaking).

All three are big picture thinkers, ponderers, philosophers, fantastical in their subject material. Check.

All three were at least somewhat reclusive curmudgeons. Check. *sigh*

All three came from generally middle class/ upper middle class backgrounds. Check.

Two died rather early deaths (suicide and cancer). The third ostensibly from old age basically. If I am to extrapolate I have a 2 in 3 chance of dying from suicide or cancer before the age of 50 then.

...in summary can't decipher if the OP link truly classifies according to 'word choice' (content?) or 'writing style' (whatever that is)...

Based on the content I entered into the link, classification per 'word choice' may very well be legit.

would be curious to have access to the algorithm being run here...still don't know if its legit...may be...

@DrGregoryHouse: Lovecraft's type is really interesting, I think. My first idea was INFP, too, mostly because his writings' are focused on feelings, as I've seen, and he must be an INxx. But he was deeply interested in scientific stuff, and spent a lot of time studying philosophical literature. If he really was an INFP, the Thinking function would have been his inferior one, and I guess, that is a contradiction. And similarly, if he was an INTP, Feeling would have been the inferior function, but as stated before, his writings are centered around feelings. Maybe INTJ is suitable for him, having a Te as 2nd, Fi as 3nd function.

David Foster Wallace and H.P. Lovecraft.
That Foster Wallace may have something interesting to read.
Wallace's novels often combine various writing modes or voices, and incorporate jargon and vocabulary (sometimes invented) from a wide variety of fields. His writing features self-generated abbreviations and acronyms, long multi-clause sentences, and extensive use of explanatory footnotes and endnotes. He used endnotes extensively in Infinite Jest and footnotes in "Octet" as well as in the great majority of his nonfiction after 1996. On the Charlie Rose show in 1997, Wallace claimed that the notes were used to disrupt the linearity of the narrative, to reflect his perception of reality without jumbling the entire structure. He suggested that he could have instead jumbled up the sentences, "but then no one would read it".
^That...Sounds a lot like me, interesting. "No one would read it" possibly, a considerably smaller audience, still I can't judge or compare his workshop this early. (I've written some things, mostly essays or fiction, but definitely not to an extent to consider I've established a style or a workshop) Workshop is a funny term, I'm not even sure if it's called that, but I'd think it should be.

I read Lovecraft in my life
:phear:, lovecraftian style is what I'd call, millenial japanese, japanese authors love to indulge in cliched, trope-tastic fantasies with vague and intensive symbolicism and the farcical feelings are somewhat similar, sometimes they also spawn cult followings and are fun experiences, depends on the scoop.

by millenial japanese, you mean the magical-realism stuff(à la murakami and banana yoshimoto)?

Yes, many writers, additionally many manga and anime scriptwriters do this too.

I've noticed a decline of this style (diversification, specialisation and new trends) in recent years, hence millenial.

I did the thing (again).

Arthur Clarke from some "mythology" I made up

And from my thread I got H. P. Lovecraft on both of the two first long posts.

Would be interesting writing a short "book" just to see what it feels like. Maybe I should try eet.

i agree that magical realism is kinda degenerate and that it has reduced caliber of japanese literature as a whole, but i dont think its fair to make it sound like magical realism is representative of japanese literature in recent years. there are lots of popular, solid writers who write outside that genre and belong in this time period as well. they're overshadowed by murakami and sons in the international market, but theyre popular nonetheless and get film adaptations and all that

and yeah, same issue with anime. lots of good manga is underrated because the stuff that gets adapted garners a lot more attention

I didn't mean it was all there was to Japanese styles, rather that it's one of prominent Japanese styles, this lovecraftianesque deal.

There are others, saying that though I can enjoy some magical-realism from time to time (on rare occasions), really depends, mostly farcical but sometimes oddly digestible.

For every bit of text that I post, all of which being mine of course, I get a different author every time, from Edgar Allan Poe and Dan Brown to someone called David Foster Wallace... (whoever that may be.) Either I`m the most literate person in the world, or, my guess would be that this algorithm-based analysis leaves a lot to be desired, accuracy-wise. Or, third possibility, I employ various different writing styles, depending on my mood or the occasion... Other authors` different entries I post also result in coming up as different authors` styles. I`m questioning whether there is such level of consistency among even established authors, since inserts from the same book often come up showing as different writing styles.

As of now, the Sherlock series is the only fiction I can tolerate. I want to say that you're lucky, but I doubt luck has anything to do with it. Man, I wish I could get your result without any form of manipulation.

I stuffedin Elon Musks 8 last twitte posts text and he got "INTP"..

Not bad.

Continued to paste in my Logs Content from 2 Days:
(I even retried with my diary that clocks in at 8 months... still same result.. kind of reminds me of this https://www.uclassify.com/browse/prfekt/Myers-Briggs-Attitude and how I never really trusted it... [it even typed Elon Musk's last 8 tweets as "E,S,T,J" hahahha... wat.])

(Creepy... I got the same result years ago... but I don't especially liked her books...,
too much bitter murders, and coping on her side for her promiscuous husband...)

I get Arthur Clarke with recent forum posts. Seems conflict brings out the INTP in me.

Im not saying i'm a vampire, but i'm not saying i'm not not a vampire, either.
technically moonlight is sunlight, so we must not sparkle or burn...maybe we just get depressed. lame.

Took it twice, using two different essays. First I got H.P. Lovecraft, then I got David Foster Wallace.

My initial reaction: AW YEAH, SUCK ON THAT BITCHES

Then I just felt completed.

I got Arthur Clarke for an essay I wrote that was a creative non-fiction for an ethical argument. I think the result relies on the topic you were writing about; of course you're going to use words more similar to an author when writing on a similar topic.
