Public Access to Data bases?

Just a question, Do any of you know how to get access to some decent data bases?

Ever since I have finished school my access to journals, articles has been very limited because I no longer have a student I. D. number that will get me into the University's library...?

Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (or PNAS), is a top-notch science journal. Seriously, best researchers in the world, limited membership, and they are voted in by existing members. It's like a super scientist club. It's funded by the gov. so the public is allowed access to their articles. www.pnas.org . Not really a database I guess either, oh well.

I don't know much about non-scientific journals. Sorry.
