A compilation of the works that I have found to contain some measure of self-evident worth. Not ordered. There are many yet to find. Some pieces are good but fall short of listing status. Subjective, but the opinion is often as valid as the opinionated. Not meant to be all encompassing, but rather for reflection, recommendation, and perusal.

Thanks for the list

Why Interstellar? I found it conceptually interesting, but story-wise rather unfulfilling.

The people around me seem to love the Graveyard Book. I've listened to it twice, and I think it's great, but I wouldn't put it on my list, I suppose mainly because I find it touching, but not very self-applicable. What is it you think makes it so good?

In your opinion, does Avatar count as anime?

Do you include What If? in XKCD?

Have you seen any of Gary Larson's comics?

What are the asterisks indicating?

Random crap:
I've read Making Comics, and liked it very well, but nothing else yet by McCloud
I find Calvin and Hobbes continually enchanting.
Just read Dune for the third time in anticipation of the new movie, and I swear it gets better every time.

Probably the concepts/music in Interstellar.

I haven't read the Graveyard book in a while, and looking back I may have romantacized it a bit, yeah.

Anime, by definition, originates in Japan, so no. Also the art style is fairly western.

What If is pretty much a novel continuation, with similar humor, so yeah.

Have not read Gary Larson. I'll check him out though.

Asterisks are the recommended if you were to view none of the others.

Understanding Comics is much better in my eyes, and has a chapter about art in general that threw my art view onto another axis. One of my favorite books is by him "The Sculptor". Very Favorite indeed.

Regretfully, I am only partway through the first book of Dune. Great stuff so far, The candor in the writing is superb.

My top recommendations for Graphic Novels: (Seeing as you're interested, you Calvin and Hobbes-reading-man-of-culture-you)

The Motherless Oven Trilogy
The Sculptor

The Classics:
V for Vendetta
Watchmen
Sandman

Notable Webcomics:
Kill Six Billion Demons
Unsounded

Bonus:
Paranatural-----Some of the greatest humor I've witnessed.

I'm enjoying Kill Six Billion Demons, Unsounded, and Paranatural each.
I have to say, though, in regards to Unsounded, I agree with the attack zombie:

Also, it's only the first book of Dune I've read thrice, and only the inbetweensie by his son Paul of Dune (once) beyond that.

Questionable Content and Girl Genius I've read. Both were great. (though they err on the jumping the shark side.)

I'll check out the others.

I ended up reading all of DMotR in one day, so thanks for that recommend.

Men In Hats is pretty good (webcomic).

Music-wise: Two Steps From Hell has the best orchestral/soundtrack I've heard.
Skyworld by them is a great track to name one.

My vote as well for Blood // Water by grandson. I think it's Trap, though it leans heavy Alternative.

Code: Pandorum has the best of Deathstep if you want something darker/harder than usual halloween music. Paimon, Hellgate, & Existence are all good.

Real Life by Greek Fire is a good one in Rock for we who talk to people via computers.

I was a student in the Wasatch Independent Debate League for 4 years and my teacher (also the League's president & founder), Sam Martineau, ran discussions at the beginning of each class that were basically like this:
