Everything but The Girl - Flipside

If you can find it, it's awesome.

London, summer 92
I think I've changed a lot since then, Do you?
Ideas that I'd held for years, emotional baggage, hopes and fears,
Seem somehow in a different light, not as wrong , but not as right,
as the seemed before. Was I different then?
Have I changed?
And will I change again?
I'm thinking of a mental free-fall, a partial total memory recall like what of
the future, what of the past, what of the present will last?
And say I did forget and revert to the old days, forget this hurt.
Am I better off or in reverse, untaught by experience and therefore worse?
I mean a lot, I mean a little.
I mean a lot, I mean a little.

I'm like a coastline, a beach and spit.
Spurn Point and the rest of it.
WIth the sea, the tide, the salt and foam.
I'm the blasted land, the sand shifting, drifting out and back, then breached,
drowned, defenses down, rebuilt from this day on.
Or maybe not, maybe my moment's gone.
I mean a lot, I mean a little.
I mean a lot, I mean a little.

Am I the same person I seemed to be?
Does all of this depress me?
I won't listen, I won't talk.
A weightless lifelong moonwalk.
I mean a lot, I mean a little.
I'm supple, brittle, pig in the middle.
There's resilience inside my face, but sometimes nothing.
Deep space.
What I feel and what I fear is always here my atmosphere.
Pig in the middle
I mean a lot, I mean a little.
I mean a lot, I mean a little

I see this is an ancient thread. However, since music is a passion and although I love most genre of music, I do have a single theme song. It has been my theme for as long as I have known this song existed, (many years). The song is sung by an artist named Lisa Gerrard and the group is called Dead Can Dance, the song is titled Cantara. I love the moody yet mystical intro and the slow building tension, almost like tip-toeing through a dark castle corridor with a solitary candle to light the way. Then just when one thinks the corridor wont end, Bam!!! The song explodes into a galloping sprint and Lisa's etherial voice starts chanting in an other worldly tounge. The song is brightness and depth resounding in an amplification of the mysterious realms we all travel when in the farthest reaches of our souls. %^>

Theme Music

A thread to express your current moods through a piece or song that reflects them. Post it to reflect either yourself or another user. It's all in good fun.

Choose to justify it if you wish, or don't. It doesn't matter. Also, feel free to discuss and analyze any piece that may appear, or that you choose yourself.

I'll start with this, for me.

Merged as there have been a few similar threads before.

If anyone wants to post songs they associate with other members you obviously can here, but I'd also point out the audial impressions thread we have stickied in this subforum: http://www.intpforum.com/showthread.php?t=7686

(*cough* which I'd secretly love to see resurrected *coughcough*)

These guys got me through high school. The sound track of my life.

"On The Outside" was a close second. Probably my theme song for high school

Nick Cave- The Singer

As I walk these narrow streets
Where a million passin feet have trod before me
With my guitar in my hand
Suddenly I realize nobody knows me

Where yesterday the multitude
Screamed and cried my name out for a song
Today the streets are empty
And the crowds have all gone home

I pass a million houses
But there is no place that I belong
All I knew to give you
Was song after song after song

All the truths I tried to tell you
Were as distant to you as the moon
Born 200 years too late
And 200 years too soon

I'm a child of this age
Locked into the pages of your book
And when I am but dust and clay
And all the children stop to take a look

Will they marvel at the miracles I did perform
And the heights I did aspire
Or will they tear out the pages of the book
To light a fire

With the rain on my face
There is no place that I belong
Did you forget this fucking singer so soon?
And did you forget my song?

Impulsively, I'm saying this one:

https://youtu.be/azBv75Pg6tU

Ohhh...oh eh oh.

When the time is right
I leave this place tonight
just leave everything behind
it's time to face my life

We'll try to find the cross back
and slap back to a crack in time
is anyone on the other side
seek and you might find

so high
so low
I don't know where but we got to got to go there

so high
so low
don't know where but we got to got to go there
got to go there

Why not give up
Buck up, drop down
why not lie down and never wake up
give in give up and don't get up
give in to the ground who gives up
she is frozen in time
behind the enemy line
in the nighttime she stares
down the highway
which way is the right way?
walkin through this world on a tightrope
a memory

door swings both ways
hear me now
in the outside, buckle up
it's gonna be a bumpy ride now
it's gonna be a bumpy ride now

so high
so low
I don't know where but we got to got to go there
(got to go there)

so high
so low
I don't know where but we got to got to go there
(got to go there)

I am searching for the shade of the tree
heard about it from a tune in the breeze
say it exists on the side of the road
but which road?
nobody was told
(so low)

All I know is I must find
a road that leads where nobody goes
(so low)

I can't roll down all the windows
where the wind blows down those spears and folds
(so high)

so let go of the steering wheel
let go, let go
(so low)

all I know is I must find a road that leads where nobody goes
let go of the steering wheel
let go, let go

so high
so low
I don't know where but we got to got to go there
(got to go there)

so high
so low
I don't know where but we got to got to go there
(got to go there)
(got to go there)

Theme song. Hmmm.
So it doesn't have to be my favorite song, but a song that fits me and I could picture as playing whenever I make an entrance.

Maybe Girl Anachronism by the Dresden Dolls?

http://youtu.be/sO5APfKnR50

Works pretty well.

Something by Andrew Jackson Jihad could also work well. Or Flatsound maybe?
Or Metric... Or Mother Mother... *shrugs into another dimension*

in case you ever wondered where my username came from:

It's in your face, you gotta go
but don't do things that would make you cry
if you feel an urge, have a go
but I don't wanna hear your reasons why
all I see, in your face
is the shade of things that tears replace
it's in your face, you gotta go
just don't do things that would make you cry

It's a ratrace, go go go
every step means a bigger wall
there's no u-turn signs ahead
for to rise thou shall not fall

You're way beyond the 9 to 5
you thought you had a life?
Well, you've had your 1 sec rest
it seems, you past the test

Which clock to beat is next
there's another phone to catch
time flies in a traffic jam
giving way to a dead end stretch

Don't stop if you want it all
be deaf for the burn-out call
but there's more than to live a lie
take breath, make room to sigh

Everything is getting faster
is it going anywhere...

It's a fastlane life
once you live it like a car
one day you're running out of gas
well, did it get you very far...

It's the age of aging
it's the age of aging
I'm not afraid of age and
not afraid of aging

And the carousel's cruising for another ride
guess who sits upfront, it's mr. make-it-mine
he puts another dime in your slotmachine
but the jackpot hits you,
it's not the other way around

Everything is getting faster
is it going anywhere...

Slowly I realized that it dawned on me
the younger you are, the more you wanna be
but living it fast? a thing from the past
any kind of age has ways to set you free
But it's not greed, or slick behaviour
just do your own thing, you can always panic later
don't get stuck in the rut of the human car
now maybe I am pushing it,
am I pushing it too far?

It's the age of aging
I'm not afraid of age, end

If you are an American, your theme song probably has you winning, in the form of Hillary Clinton - who thinks the Libyan military intervention was a good idea and wants to continue our foreign policy in places like Pakistan and Yemen, despite the human rights violations - and Donald Trump, who thinks torture and isolationism via protectionist tariffs are a good idea for the American poor, who will pay exceptionally more for everything due to Trump's brand of isolationism. If you are not American, your theme song probably has you overcoming loss.

Fools who think protectionist tariffs will make their country great need only look at Venezuela. Socialism is a doomed ideology. 10 million peasants starved to death in Ukraine to teach you this lesson - please don't minimize what the holodomer taugh us all. Please don't be another American, another "Bernie Bro" who thinks that socialism is a good idea. Literally millions of people died.

Starvation in Ukraine meant cannibalism - your stupid socialist policies are not ready for cannibalism, you socialist scum.

Stop being against capitalism and money will come your way. Free trade rescued Germany, not the Marshall Plan.

Maybe you stop shoving capitalism in other people's faces and polarising the argument by using misrepresentation and generalisations.

Because obviously every single pro-social policy leads to holodomor and has to be called 'socialist'. If you were more knowledgeable about this issue you'd know that it was a controlled genocide perpetuated by a totalitarian regime abusing top down centralised economic planning and power, causing damage and suffering not unlike many other centrally planned states with extensive state ownership (or corporate ownership because let's face it, there's no difference).

Btw. this is a theme song thread so it's confusing to rant about politics and policies here. Also good if you understand the distinction between the two.
