I'm not feeling clever enough today for a fancy post title, but hey there nonetheless.

I'm a male INTP. Tested that way in high school, and it likely saved my life. Or at any rate, made high school far more bearable.

I was over at INTPc several years ago, but just quit after a few months. No real reason for that, I just didn't feel like sticking around. I was glad to find this place this morning, and am hoping maybe I might feel more at home here.

I'm a Social Worker, working in a community mental health agency in Ohio. I'm finishing up my Master's Degree at the moment. I was repeatedly told at INTPc that I couldn't possibly be a good therapist as an INTP, and I like to think I've been proving them wrong for the 10 years I've been in social work.

That's probably enough for the time being. Hi, and glad to meet you all.

Fucking sweet! I had a friend who worked at a mental-health place. She only had two years of college at that point, so I think she was just an orderly or a low-level therapist.

And yeah. INTPs can be good therapists, especially to eachother. In another thread someone remarked that a lot of us here have either been in therapy or are aspiring therapists.

I also feel like INTPs might be able to.... I dunno, just get to the core of a problem better. While other types might be focused on feeling empathy for the patient and trying to sooth them, we may be more focused on a solution.

Behind you, kicking you in the ass
Anyone that told you that as an INTP, you wouldn't make a good therapist is a maroon.

Just ask Snowqueen.

Welcome and stick around, we're not half bad once you get to know us (or we're more than half good/cool/fun depending on your optimism/pessimism outlook).

Well I'm an INTP with a Master's in Human Relations. I am also an excellent therapist for a certain category of clientele - criminals or those who feel like criminals. There is no therapist that can form a true therapeutic relationship with all clients. That is why the Assessment of a client is so important, client and counselor must be a good fit for anything to be accomplished.
As far as specific strengths that INTPs may exhibit as therapists. Introverts are likely to be better listeners than Extroverts. As a thinker I have been able to listen to horror story after horror story without it affecting my objectivity too much. If I had been an empathetic F sharing pain with those clients, I 'think' it would have driven me off into the deep end. Clients for the most part are lying through their teeth, at least for the first few sessions. Intuition is so much more valuable for analysis than Sensing during these sessions. I think it is obvious why a P would be a better counselor than a Judger...
