My cat is going absolutely batshit crazy!! It's an adult. She's primarily an outdoor cat, but currently she's having trouble deciding on what she wants to do. She goes outside, inside, outside, inside in less than 5 minutes; a chaotic never-ending cycle. She goes in and out of basement, attic, you name it, in the same chaotic fashion. She's also running up and down the steps and making loud grunting noises, and making meows that sound real anxious. She's also being much more affectionate than usual, like she is worried about me and/or needs to be comforted.
Our location is a little west of the east coast 'edge', and is just barely inside the area that will be affected by the storm (power outages predicted, but not severe damage) She starting acting a little weird at about the same time the news was predicting Hurricane Sandy to hit 'soon' (2-4) days ago, and her behavior was gradually getting weirder and more chaotic over time up until currently (windy, raining now) as noted above. She's never been this bad before, even with 'average' local storms.
Have your pets been 'sensing'/'predicting' the storm, and reacting anxiously (& how long in advance)? How deep into / close are you to the storm's radius/area? Are any of you who aren't in this area (how far?) noticing your pet(s) reacting? I'll look this up later, but what's the scientific explanation? I know at least cats can sense the earth's magnetism, but there's probably more mechanisms to explain the weather-foresight.
