This NY Times article creatively uses the concept of multimedia to present a fatal story about a group of skiers and snowboarders during their time at Stevens Pass, WA, USA.

I haven't read it all but the presentation is definitely cool, I'm curious to see the development of such technology as media becomes ever more immersive.

It's pretty snazzy and cool - but there's something I don't like about it. Might just be misoneism though.

I like the style, and it's one that I myself am predisposed to using. This is eerily similar to my research PowerPoint presentations...

This is what admittedly bothers me a little though:

"Note to anyone running tracker-blocking software:

^Let's find out how many are attracted to this shiny new form of presentation and then inundate them with equally shiny ads!

Perhaps I'm being a bit too dystopian?

I have all the other web bugs/trackers blocked and it just shows a large grey box that says "Advertisement" but there's no ad.

It's the same thing with the Google +1 tracker and their data center photos. The content's code and tracking software are embedded in the same app.

Hmm, are they publishing ebooks using this format?

I don't think so, but I would definitely like to see this become a widely used format for ebook literature.

I suppose some might consider it distracting, but I think it could help understanding, and stimulate imagination.

I like the concept of this article. However, it didn't exactly flow well to me. I like the potential though and think it's going down a cool path.

I dont think this is the path it should go down. This was the path TV news went down, and look where it ended up... News should not only be about creating an immersive experience, it should also be about making the readers think. You can get Michael Bay to direct your news, but then it is not news anymore.

User input is very often more valuable than what the author has written. When I am reading news, I dont want only one viewpoint of the story. It should be about getting as many viewpoints as possible. Maybe they should try and let users comment on specific sentences. It would allow people to interact with the material more. This is something that the TV cannot really do. You cannot watch CNN while looking the comments on Twitter.

I hope the future of media reporting is going to look more like Reddit. :captain:

There was a recent post/thread here where I had the same sentiment, didn't comment on it though.

I agree, there is currently a monopoly on televised news broadcasting in which people have no choice in what current events they're able to follow. I think reddit (could) competes with those major news networks, since people are able to fine-tune their interests to get the most relevant news and other information.

*Not to mention it's potentially more instantaneous, and enables more individuals around the globe to reach the masses(e.g. /r/IAmA).
