My personal connection with Blockland.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've been playing Blockland for five years now, and it has never gotten old. Since its initial release in 2004, it has evolved and taken on new images, and it still retains a modern look- now in Version 21, revision# 1984. I played this game religiously over summer breaks after 8th, 9th and 10th grade. I still play once in a while, although I mostly just go on the forum.
What is Blockland?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Blockland is a lego-like, generally multiplayer sandbox style game, although you can do much more than build, and you are certainly entitled to play by yourself as much as you want. Blockland allows you to build with up to 256,000 plastic bricks to create whatever you want. You can use a wrench tool to event them, or modify them to do something or interact with other bricks. Using simple events, you can make a brick fire bullets at a player when they step on a trap brick. (This does not require any difficult coding work, and includes a user-friendly setup) Players can host servers for free and can typically have as many as 32 people present on a server at once. Content is almost entirely user-created and safe. Mods (called Add-Ons in Blockland) are safe and can be used to enhance the content of the game. Using mini-games paired with a good combination of Add-Ons can be used to change the game mechanic from building to fighting in a multi-team deathmatch, zombie survival, free-for-all, roleplay or puzzle/adventure/challenge.
Blockland runs off of a heavily-modified version of Torque Game Engine, modified so much that it practically is its own game engine. It boasts an intelligent community and creative backbone.
Blockland is also trying to be released on Steam via Steam Greenlight. The official page can be viewed here. (Videos available on Greenlight page)
