No, I don't drink coffee, soda or chocolate. Sometimes I eat chocolate, so I guess I'm not ENTIRELY decaffeinated.

I'm Sam, a 27 year old chemist trying to become a psychologist. I've been studying personality theory for something like 7 years on and off, but only last year did I figure out that I'm an INTP instead of an INTJ. Guess that goes to show the problem of trying to answer when you "know" what you "should" answer. Last month I got qualified to administer level B psychological instruments, so I may put some posts up in the future to get some help finishing a sales entrance test.

I like video games and long walks on the beach.

But mostly video games.

Hello Decaf, its great to have an expert on personality to help us understand it better.

Ogion brought up Socionics in another thread and Ive been looking into it, what is your opinion of it compared to MBTI?

(looks like there are many INTP gamers around, me included)

Hi Decaf, welcome to the forums. But what's a level B psycho instrument?

Note: I got 58 for hexxagon, but I didn't log in for a week or two some time ago and the record disappeared. =.= Maybe I'll play it again.

Hi Decaf!

Does caffeine do dreadful stuff to you?

I get sweaty, shaky, palpitations, elevated temp... just curious. Most people don't believe me when I say what a strong reaction I get. Caffeine is mean stuff!

What's your excuse for avoiding it?

Hi Decaf, welcome to the forums. But what's a level B psycho instrument?

Level A is an instrument that can be automated or self scored. These test are often uncontrolled (internet versions of the MBTI for example).

Level B requires a qualified person to administer and later to verify the results. The MBTI falls in this category because error in the test can cause vast inaccuracies. Of course as INTPs, how many of us would almost prefer the internet test with is ease of use and the fact you don't have to talk to someone about it to make sure you got it right?

Level C requires direct face to face interaction with a professional psychologist (generally a PhD, or PhD candidate). This could be the Rorschach Inkblot Test or the MBTI step II.

Even though I'm qualified as Level B, I'll preface that with that I understand the theory very well, but am a horrible face-to-face verifier. I tend to try my theories as I have them, and turn people into guinea pigs instead of helping them weed through their emotions and memories to find their true selves. Needless to say, the field is full of NFs who are very good at it. Especially INFs in my experience.

Oh, and as far as coffee, I just never developed a taste for it. Growing up I perceived that others depended on it to do things I could already do (like wake up in the morning), so I felt taking it would risk dependency, which I abhor. Now I think that would be unlikely to happen, but why train your body to expect outside stimulation for the things it should be able to do for itself?

Coffee is delicious.

And I'm an INTP gamer! And an amateur... that is, I don't get paid for it.

I love drinking coffee, but I don't get any stimulation from most types at all. Maybe it's because my favorite type is really sweet and thick black coffee (no milk). The only effect I get from caffeine is that if I drink it late, I can't sleep, but feel like sleeping. Maybe I think too much to notice improvements. :P

Just as a side note, thanks. Its been a while since I've found a place that energizes me as much as this place and I know that's no easy feat. You've all done a hell of a job.

Decaffeinated drinks still have caffeine in them, just less. You need to start looking for products that are caffeine-free.

I generally just don't wake up. My (ISTJ) wife isn't happy that I use the snooze button like it's going out of style, and I'm usually not very useful at work until 10:00 or so... :p

... I've never used that button before: I just bash the alarm clock and lie down for a few minutes before getting up. Luckily, if I fall asleep, I can count on myself to wake up before its too late :1 I hate my alarm clock the most out of all the objects in my house. =.=

Snooze button! I set my alarm for when I need to get up, and I'm usually up about 7 snooze presses after that. Maybe I just need a snooze alarm with a shorter duration?

I also try to stay away from caffeine, but there's usually long stretches where I'm very low energy, though that could have something to do with not getting enough sleeps. I love my bed though, and I use it like it's going out of style :3
