What if we develop a very distinct, minimalist, art style, with which we can create a sort of community project web-comic? For example the Southpark art style (characters comprised of simple, borderless shapes) is very simple, very easy, but it's just enough to get the idea across and allows for a great diversity of visual character traits.
"Will save world for gold" even uses little bitmaps to great affect.
Anyway this all goes to show it's really the writing that's more important than the art and we have plenty of great writers, and as for characters, well we have ourselves.
