Hi everyone,

Just posting my hello's here. I found this forum through Google. I saw the big INTP forum, but I like this layout better. Most of the topics also seem to relate to me more othan the other one.

About me: i'm 26 year old software engineer. I recently just went through some career counseling which included taking the MBTI test. I took the test with a very open mind and answered questions based on what I actually do as oppose to what I think I should do. The results led me to being an INTP.

After reading the descriptions of what an INTP is, I was excited yet so sad. It makes perfect sense why I do the things I do and why people view me the way they do e.g. a little weird. I always see myself as a logical person, yet I feel distant from many. I have very few "friends" but otherwise many "acquaintences"

Anyhow i'm off to post! Look forward to chatting with the rest of you INTP people in helping me understand more about myself

Who wants to know?
And a good day to you too. Welcome to the coven; frog's legs go here, green potions there, and hapless ideas fly everywhere. :)

Welcome VIC. Like you, I have very few close friends. I've found that interaction via the written word (bulletin boards, emails) is more satisfying for me than in person, face-to-face. It gives me time to prepare my thoughts in their most concise and cogent form, whereas when talking face-to-face I am prone to longish pauses as I prepared to express my next thought, and other people find this frustrating (e.g. they are either uncomfortable with the silence and feel the need to fill it with words, or else they just assume I'm finished when I'm not).

I have a software background too (~20 years in IT as programmer, systems analyst and entrepreneur) though I currently work as a General Manager in a not-for-profit organisation. And like you, I am intensely driven by logic at the expense of emotional considerations. Thus I am seen as a bit of a "cold fish" socially, much preferring my own space and privacy.

Hope you enjoy it here. I have, so far at least. The biggest thing I have noticed is that, because we're all predominantly INTPs, we are able to argue about topics fairly dispassionately and politely and have respect for one another's intuitions, even when coming from totally opposite viewpoints. I really like that about this place ... as other places where I tend to post I run into INTJs a lot and they are are rather rude bunch as a rule.
