I was looking through pages like this one and it seems there is mod support for HTML5 media embedding through BBCode.

It would be cool as a forum feature though I guess it's unlikely older versions of vBull are supported.

I found a mod for 3.8.4 that supports Vorbis/Theora(ogg).

Though I can't tell if the forum is still allowed to install updates based on this post from Ragnar:
For the record, this is an Owned license for infinity. It has expired, which means no further updates except for security patches are allowed; but it is not leased ( which used to be a yearly thing ), just owned.

I was looking into that recently but the current version we're running on is 3.8.5, so I'm waiting to see what Fukyo thinks. VBulletin is getting old and it's kinda glitchy already :phear:

I'm not sure about the updates issue, that quoted post was from 2011....and we haven't heard from Ragnar for a while.

Is there any particular reason you want this plugin? Is there a difference between, say posting a flash based youtube video vs a html5 one? Do you want new file formats to be embeddable?

Initially I just thought it would be a cool feature to have, like all the other ones here. Flash is more of a load on people's systems than HTML5 video, for example threads like 'what music are you listening to' might crash or slow down some people's computers. This incompatible mod would've also allowed video embeds from other places than youtube(and new file formats), but I suppose embedding is not crucial, you can still normally link to other non-youtube videos.

But now I'm aware that HTML5 video formats also have less of a strain on bandwidth, and there is mobile support (again, the load issue would benefit from HTML > Flash). Only .ogg video is supported in the 3.8.4. mod so I suppose it has limited utility.
