How do you think INTPs respond to imprisonment? How would you act? I can't imagine myself with a life sentence... I'd surely try to escape. What would you do?

I deserve to go to prison for failing my calculus exam. I wouldn't fight it.

I'd handcuff myself, even.

Personally, I would retreat into my mind and fulfil desires via my imagination.

Pros:
  • Only have to deal socially with people one hour a day.
  • 23 hours/day to read, study, reflect
  • A library system that delivers books to your door
  • College degrees possible in some prisons
  • None of this nagging to get a "practical" job
  • Don't have to worry about forgetting to pay bills
  • Don't have to do laundry
Cons:
  • getting butt-raped
  • Independence/non-conformism greatly frowned upon
  • have to hold down a steady job upon release
  • anti-intellectual climate
  • getting butt raped
LOL

Ummmm I've worked in a couple of prisons, does that count?

Unfortunately, a lot of the so called "Career Criminals" are very Not good criminals, at all...
They have "institutionalized mind sets' They have adapted to the environment of free room and board, they like being locked in, safe from the chaos of society

It is a simple Tribal government, There is a Convict Code of Ethics, the prisoners actually run the place, they have shadow Court systems, Communication systems, Smuggling systems, etc.

The number one rule is "Leave the Staff alone, they just might leave us alone..."

ask to be put in solitary confinement, end up reading all day.

OR

mingle with my fellow hooligans, peddle H on the daily, then break out after amassing a small fortune of drug money and live out the rest of my days searching for Scylla.

I would happily accept solitary confinement.
If forced to interact with other prisoners i would probably start killing people till someone kills me.

Whenever I watch prison documentaries I always think, "At this exact moment, that person is more than likely in that exact cell." How many people do you see on TV in which you know exactly where they are at that moment?

Take that, Heisenberg!

The worst that I can imagine, would be being stuck in for a lifetime in a third-world prison resulting from a fleeting moment of teenage stupidity. A real life Midnight Express. Yech.

The 'scan and edit' part of the process was replaced with gauging the distance of the boss' footsteps. :)

.

Hey now, that principle was based on very small things. Its still fairly valid in this case:D.

The whole isolation thing would get old after a while. I do not mind isolating myself willingly, but if someone else were to force it on me I would most likely become irritated. Over the long term I would miss my internet connection :phear:.

Too close to Hollywood.

Exactly what I was thinking. It might be a good situation for embarking on some crazy epic project, a book or something that takes years of work, but the lack of a forum for discussion and exchange of ideas would be horrendous.

^^ I didn't think about that, I might have difficulty with internet withdraw for a while. Fortunately I have the benefit of living in a time before the internet existed (or even before personal computers existed) so I know it is possible to live without these things.

I don't know if it's possible to live without these things once they come into existence. Unless you're Amish.. give me my technology!

this is living?
Aren't we the one's that plan the breaks? C'mon, people. No one's living without the internet for long.
And, our brother is coming with us...if he is still alive by the time we get around to pefecting The Plan. Sure, it's gonna get all convoluted. Someone may have to die, or maybe just lose a limb, but it's an acceptable loss, as long as we get out. Now, the most important things you know we did before the crime was ever committed, "just in case". That way the money is under the tree by the stone wall when we get there. We can make our way to the white beaches near the clear blue water and sip mimosa (yuck), while sitting beside our new and intriguing friend, John (a.ka. Hanibal Lector). Don't you guys watch any T.V? :D

(Greatest respect to Dumas's Faria)

Apologies: I just noticed the reference to escaping in the very first post. My zap is more of a fizzle now...

My INTP cousin is in prison right now. He has been dealing with it by doing really complex, technical, mathematical looking art of butterflies and vaginas. If I get a copy of some of his art, I'll post it.

He has to be very sexually deprived in jail to be drawing those.

Would probably opt for solitary confinement with books if possible. Social interaction seems even less desirable in prison.

They won't take me alive!

If I'll ever get jailed, it's going to be "Prison Break in Fleur's style" - there would be enough time for creating the escape plan and a whole alphabet of backup plans, and it wouldn't be a big problem to carry them out.

Yes, perhaps secluding yourself from the outside world sounds somewhat tempting, I don't think I would accept it in terms of a mandatory.
If I'll ever choose to confine from the society, I still would like to have an option for returning in whatever time I want, to have as complete control over my life as it's possible. When inprisoned, one doesn't have those privileges.

Way south.
All day free doing nothing, food and shelter assured, access to books and art/writing materials... hmm, if it wasn't for the raping and stuff that wouldn't sound so bad :p

Yeah, escape plans, probably all i'd do.

That and just flip out on the first person who messed with me, hope i don't die right then, and hope that word spreads. Don't know if I would have the courage to actually implement this.

LOL escape plans all day. You'd be constantly scheming and never getting around to doing anything. Spending time lifting weights and playing basketball sounds alright. I'd get sick of the food and the SJ guards trying to play tough guy acts with you. Otherwise I'd just spend time reading.

Most likely I would analyze the politics of prison system and find my place within it. My pride wouldn't allow me to be anyone's b***h, so I would probably get into a few fights at first. I would learn to accept the racial seperation and hierarchies, and try to use my intellect to get a job as a teachers aid or something in the prison education system. All INTP's would have to toughen up real quick and learn not to ruffle too many feathers. We like to argue and challenge the established rules, which can be a death sentence in prison (no pun intended). If we can follow the rules, I think we could become valuable as prison lawyers, strategic consultants for prison gangs, helping inmates with their romantic letters to wives on the outside etc. Not being overly assertive by nature, we would have to quickly establish that we are capable of enacting extreme violence against anyone who would challenge our manhood, while at the same submitting to the rules of the prison population.

All this talk of trying to escape is fun... but escaping from prison isn't like the movies. These days its rare, and what would you do when you get out? I'm sure the scheming nature of the INTP would think about it a lot, but I doubt if many of you would / could actually pull it off. Although I do think the character Michael Scofield from the TV show Prison Break was an INTP.
