Is anyone else really tempted to take up pipe smoking?

I won't, of course, because it's so bad for you and all that, but just for the feeling I've always wanted to buy a pipe and some non-addictive tobacco substitute and just have a smoke every few months. It just makes me feel so...classy? Sophisticated? Intellectual? Unique? I don't know, I've just always really wanted to do it. Just sit there on a park bench, or in my office reading a 150 year-old book, toking away.

Anyone else?

There is a whole process to smoking a pipe. If you enjoy tobacco there are a plethora of options to choose from each with it's own characteristics. I think it's the ritual of unwrapping the tobacco and packing the pipe. This is where you get the first fragrance of the tobacco. Then you light the pipe which is a process in an of itself. Finally you take and savor your first real pull.

See, it's a ritual. Going through the motions (everybody does it different and swears by their method) is relaxing. After a while you start to associate the smell with relaxation. If you have specific clothes you wear when smoking you associate those with comfort and calm.

It's not unlike making tea or a cup of coffee with a french press. Going through the motions of the ritual itself is just as important as the end result of the process.

Yes, I'd dearly love to stand in a tailored suit smoking a pipe with a croquet mallet perched over my shoulder, occasionally participating in the game. (Honestly)

I envy you. You're English; that would just be picture perfect. My Canadian accent wouldn't make it any less classy, but being form the UK just puts the garnish on the soup. *sigh*

Not pipe smoking, but I'm really attracted to bongs.

You could use those bubble-pipes? I think I share the same aesthetic preference towards pipe-smoking.

Yup...that's probably a lot of it.

Not pipe smoking, but I'm really attracted the bongs.

Do you like hookahs? I'm attracted to those too...in a different sort of way.

Bubble pipes...lol!

But I don't think they sell those anymore. I guess I'll have to be content with doing this:smoker:...for now.

No, but I would smoke cigarettes were it not for those well-known deleterious side-effects. I like watching the smoke, and the movements needed to smoke. :smoker:
