Well...

In recent weeks, maybe the last 8 or so, I've been reading somewhat into why the MBTI can't so accurately pigeonhole all of mankind into identifiable groups (the obviously following question would be "can anything really?"). This is great, dandy, fantastic that that I'm going to spend more time learning about Jung's work and try to gain as much understanding as possible.

In the meantime, I've spent a little time trying as best I can to type and understand everyone in my immediate family, see how we contrast, what could have caused my development this way as opposed to any other. I've recently shared this information with my father (You're all in trouble, fyi. He's going to call all of your mothers.) and went a little back and forth as we always do with our own bits of info, exchanging and enlightening...Come to think of it, he really is like an intellectual pal I never had growing up (Ne-Ti user. Would make him an ENTP).

Where am I going with this? He's discovered something of interest in his personal readings and wants to make a presentation to the family of some sort, in the climactic days of this holiday season, probably X-mas eve to X-mas territory. He wants me to do the same.

I wouldn't have a problem with this (And initially didn't) if I was at least 80% confident in my understanding in this and, going back to my first statement, if I had still seen the MBTI as mostly valid. Clearly not so sure right now and wouldn't dream of sharing information I had little understanding of.

He just came up to me a day or two ago and said he basically has his thing mentally-prepped, and wanted to know where I was with mine. I would have waited until the last minute anyway, but...

I don't know if I should proceed or not.
Oh and, if you care to share, how have any of you treated this since your own "beginnings"? Have you told other people of this?

What is wrong with a rational classification and explanation of human personalities? Of course it is impossible to achieve 100% coverage or accuracy, that is a given. I do not understand why some people are so strong in their rejection of simple observations of humans. Yes, the explanations for the phenomena may be controversial, but the essence of the types aren't.

Personally, I've known about MBTI for about year now, and I've told no one else of my findings since. Near the end of highschool is when I really had a grasp on MBTI and found the Enneagram, and have tried to implement theories, but alas, graduation came too soon.

In your case, I see no reason not to tell your family of your findings.
