Suppose we learn how to recreate your entire neuronal pattern by freezing, slicing and scanning your brain after you die. This isn't fantasy actually, but a technique being used to map neuron patterns in mice and the like (I believe only the C Elegans nematode has been mapped so far)*

So this pattern is played into a computer, run and 'you' live again, inside a virtual world in the computer

  • Is it really you?
  • How is this any different from going to sleep, losing consciousness thereby, and waking up again?
  • What happens every morning when you wake up, consciousness is discontinuous, did the mind just reboot?

Theseuses Paradox, "you" is contrived, so if you believe so then yes, if not then no.

How is this any different from going to sleep, losing consciousness thereby, and waking up again?
It isn't, continuity of consciousness is lost all the same :D

What happens every morning when you wake up, consciousness is discontinuous, did the mind just reboot?
Perhaps we should wonder, when we turn a computer on does it wake up?

Edit: I'm going to bed now...
