The landlord is very cross, cause there is too much stuff to redecorate. So then there threats and we are not speaking.

I tend to disagree on the spartan and lack of decoration.

If I could afford it, I would have a very luxurious home-cavern-thing. But not tacky faux-neoclassical gold-and-plastic-kitsch luxe! It'd be 21st century high-tech industrialism meets art nouveau meets deconstructivism meets primitive cavern meets english garden meets gothic cathedral meets bauhaus meets moorish geometry meets russian brutalism meets 70's futurism Tekton luxe. (Also known as Viollet-le-Duc, Frank LLoyd Wright, Louis Kahn, Lebbeus Woods and Richard Rogers get together to do LSD). (it sounds bad, but it will be genius! Just you wait and see!).

Intricate linear patterns would be found mingling into the asymmetrical spaces, connected through complex games of light and shadow as well as sensual natural and artificial textures and strategically placed colors, everything creating a mood of mystery and intimacy and a labyrinthine visual-aural-tactile-spatial variety, with books and stuff falling into place into the integrated nooks and shelves that are seemingly placed at random.

But eh.. your definition of decoration might differ. But to me, function and decoration are one and the same!
