Uhmm. I wouldn't say it isn't strictly one or the other. I suppose it more correlates to endings of games you have played that once you see their ending you no longer feel the need to play other games.

There shall come a day in my life upon which I shall ingest exstacy and marijuanam and proceed to don the Occulus Rift and set forth into the world of Spira again.

The feeling of catharsis or elation after experiencing a work of art?

This mostly applies to books but happened more often in the past.

To list some of my best gaming experiences that are also related to the ending:
The totality of Baldur's Gate, BG II:Shadows of Amn, BG II:Throne of Bhaal
music, story, freedom of choice

My favourite of the three was Shadows of Amn, as it was the most storytelling and freedom focused:
best of the endings
most of the western rpgs fell short when compared to this, there are notable exceptions

Final Fantasy VI, all titles after VI felt lacking or different, as did the most of eastern rpgs, with some exceptions like tales series, etc.
music, story, art
Final Battle+End

I got into video games too late to really know much about the FF series but after I played X I felt the story line was very lacking/bad endings. XIII was very poorly done and I didn't bather to play any of the sequels ie. X-2, XIII-2. I did enjoy the game play of XII and thought of getting into XIV but didn't think it was worth it- it started out very poorly.

The latest game that I have really enjoyed was Dragon Age: Origins. Didn't play the second but hope Inquisition is good.

I've been meaning to get into The Witcher series and have both games in the series on Steam and might eventually get the third when it comes out.

Other games that were not as good: Assassins Creed series, Skyrim, and Guild Wars 2.

As far as other games go, I love racing games. GT series is pretty sweet. I also like NFS series as well but both these series of games don't really have anything to do with a story line except for Most Wanted and Shift to a lesser degree. I even have a $300 racing wheel.

I have a PS3 and a PC that I have sunk about $1.7k into not including mouse, keyboard and Keypad. I also own a computer I bought for about $1k and a laptop for school.

Dragon Age was a interesting game. They killed it in number two. Dumbed it down. And was too repetitive. Three looks like it may redeem the series. They also brought back the race selection, with the Qanari being playable.

Witcher is awesome so far. Only just started playing it though.

I'm unashamed to say I played the shit out of Oblivion. I stopped counting the hours after 500. Time well spent.

Also.. Hurry up and come out Watch Dogs!!! I don't think it even has a release date set anymore.

I'm getting into games like FTL, Minecraft, Starbound (which is like a combination of the former two) and eagerly awaiting Dark Souls 2, but I agree if you're saying the console games industry has turned to shit because it has, the new consoles can go fuck themselves my PC is already more powerful, accepts mods, can make mods, and in many cases is easier to play online with.

Why the hell would I bother with a new console?
