Hello.
For starters:
  1. I have one brilliant, honest wife.
  2. I have one brilliant, potentially honest 18 month old daughter.
  3. I have five brilliant, honest friends.
  4. I consciously choose the Singularity as religion.
  5. I'm probably not as smart as I think that I am.
  6. I put off participating in pink society until I was 35.
  7. As an atheist, I attempt to interpret the world that I seem to inhabit as if it were intentionally designed.
    a. When I am successful in this, I inhabit an intensely beautiful, infinite work of art.
    b. When I am unsuccessful in this, I withdraw into a sad little ball of fear.
  8. I spent about 15 min internally debating replacing atheist with Pretheist...
  9. I can extrovert on demand to the point that I get paid to be a good leader.
    a. I have tested INTP all of my life, but have learned to fake XNTP for profit.
  10. I'm probably smarter than I think I am.
  11. I love Bach, Beethoven, Stravinsky, EL-P, Brian Ferneyhough, John Coltrane, and music from India mostly.
  12. I love Neal Stephenson, Robert Anton Wilson, and Bucky Fuller among many others.
  13. I believe that selection pressures imposed by commercial entities, both as employers and as service providers, have an overwhelmingly negative impact on our culture.
I look forward to learning from all of you without pissing anyone off too much.
Thanks!

Who wants to know?
Welcome to the forums, orgaqualia. Since I'm a member (actually, THE member) of INTP Forum's welcoming committee, you have been officially welcomed. By me.

What do you mean by pink society? Also, I see no vomit, detritus or -tling, just a prat :p (If you couldn't tell, I'm joking. And I'm in an oddly good mood. Maybe it's because you were talking about profit)

Oh yeah, and you spelt Stravinsky wrong. :)

Can you guess why the committee has only one member?

Firstly I'd disagree that your prattling is purposeless. It must serve some function, in this case it introduces us to the fact that you're self-effacing yet contrarily confident, share a thoughtful sense of humour, stand to be corrected on the usage of X, allude to mysterious things, and - most disturbingly - make lists!

Obviously we have only one member on the welcoming committee because Aphasia is so damn good at it, but being the nosy old crone that I am, I like to sniff the new bottoms. Errr...that is, say hello.

:)

Welcome orgaqualia.

I have to rant about your number 13.

Let me begin with the sensory overload that is the entertainment industry. Specifically all those carbon copy magazines that cater to the young adult. Particularly of the female variety. These people want us to believe that the women/young women in these magazines are what a "real" women is supposed to be. They essentially teach that you should follow trends in order to be accepted by the mainstream. The fear that can impose on one that is weak of will is a frightening thing indeed. Unacceptability can breed more fear, loneliness and a sense of low self worth. The next step is someone reading of you in a newspaper.

I believe that the entertainment industry is cause for a ton of young womens depression, eating disorders and even suicides. They breed sheeple. Mind you, one can choose to ignore these rules of society like we do. However ones that care about the opinions of others to a major degree and have to fit in, are doomed to follow whatever trend that allows them harmonize with the collective.

I'd elaborate further on this, but I am at work have an emergency to deal with.

Ignore the list bashers, they know not of what they diss; lists are the ultimate form of logical expression. One day the great list will organise this chaotic world and at last we will have perfect numerical order. (sorry, was on a roll)

Seems your inconsistant (5,10) with a history of pissing people off... welcome :D

Robert Anton Wilson was a huge influence on me, still is. I enetered Chapel Perilous a few years back and promptly got lost. I then found what I thought was a map, yet we all know the map is not the territory I tried to make it so for a while. Then I lost the map and wandered aimlessly once more, occasionally stumbling across a revelation but most just deluding myself. I recently found a new map and emerged from Chapel Perilous victorious. However I did not like to be parted from this new found reality tunnel so I promptly went back. Its an interesting place to be, can be very dark at times and very unforgiving, but I do like a challenge, especially an esoteric and practically non existant one.

stand to be corrected on the usage of X

I'm a moth to the flame apparently.

  1. I can extrovert on demand to the point that I get paid to be a good leader.
    a. I have tested INTP all of my life, but have learned to fake XNTP for profit.

Everyone can extravert themselves, but the key is to recognize that when you do so, you do not in any way resemble an ENTP. They do it differently. That's good because I'm sure you'd find that some of their methods wouldn't sit well with you.

We're introverts because our dominant function is Introverted Thinking. We extravert ourselves by accessing our auxiliary function of Extraverted Intuition (those are definitive for INTPs according to Jung). That means we prepare ourselves by analyzing out methods and any new information, and then express that analysis to others by attempting to show them how everything fits together. To try to give them an understanding of how everything is related according to our understanding. Its also why when we talk to others, we sometimes feel like we're brainstorming, coming up with new ideas. That's because people use their auxiliary function as their source of creativity, and ours just happens to be a function that attempts to draw connections (sometimes obscure) between bits of information until everything we know is somehow related. If something doesn't feel related, we find it difficult to work with. This also exibits itself in a tendancy to jump from topic to topic as our mind barrels through the conversation. We don't bother explaining how we make each leap, because sometimes we don't know ourselves.

Because its an auxiliary function and not our dominant, we don't initially develop a strong usage of it, especially if we don't have a supportive atmosphere to grow in. It sounds like you have developed it quite well though if you don't mind having it be part of your everyday routine.

In summary, XNTP is a fictional type. When the X is in place of the S/N or the T/F it might represent uncertainty, but when you change the E/I or the J/P so much of the personality is different between the two that it represents a need to delve further into the subject than is easily accessible from the internet. Remember, all behavior is accessible to all types. Its motivation and method that define your personality.

Oh, and welcome :D Sorry, I do this all the time. I still need to sign up for Soap Box Anonymous.

I love lists! Cog is right, in my mind. Lists and outlines are my favorite way of expressing ideas in a logical and orderly format. Hell, often times when I write papers, my outline is actually LONGER than my paper because I'm incredibly nit-picky with the information that I utilize.

yay lists :D
