So one of my facebook (no, I have no clue why I'm on facebook) friends posted this question as her status:

"If you were to go back in time, where would you go?"

So I got interested. This is what I replied:

"That depends. Is it just travelling back there for a little just to see what it was like? Or am I travelling back in time to find a suitable time to live in? Because my answer depends on that. If I'm just visiting for a little, I'd like to go back to the Jurassic Period and such to see all the dinosaurs, maybe the French Revolution, and I think I'd like to see if the medieval times were as cool as they seem with huge armies of knights and awesome castles. However, if I were going to a new time to live I think I'd have to choose the mid-to-late 1800s for a number of reasons. Foremost, white males are still more privileged members of society and even though it's a messed up thought, it would make no sense to not prefer the time where I'm treated better than others. Second, a lot of the technology we use and take for granted today was invented then so it'd be cool to see the discovery of new technology and hell, I might even be able to create/improve some of the inventions with my own knowledge of the future. So, uh... yeah..."

What do you guys think?

I wouldn't mind being a 1900s industrialist.

But I like my lithium batteries and brushless motors ;)

Great break down, Cheeseumpuffs.

But let me push it a little further. Where is your possible standing in these situations?

A merchant as a Roman equates to a knight in medieval times equates to a hussar in Napoleon's army.

If I'm stuck living there, I'd like to know before hand how I am living.

Observation I agree. I want to hide behind trees and in bushes and observe dinosaurs and write continuous notes.

I'd say Ancient Egypt/Greece would be the coolest eras to check in on. I think I'm getting what I know about ancient egypt mixed up with stargate though

Also that new woody allen movie Midnight in Paris kind of makes me think 1920's paris would be cool for an intp

So much Syphilis so little time.

Question: Can I change my gender first? From what I can tell it was never a good time to be my gender. Besides, I look good in a Fedora and trousers. All I need now is a mustache.

Well the question was left open ended so I assumed anything left out was within your power to control. So yeah, you can be all the man you want to be.

If time was somehow like a dial with numbers on it, I would jump in before the "0" mark to see the future. If I had freedom to do as I wished, I would jump in and out of random times just to watch for awhile. Bring a few modern/"dated" things to troll those who belong in that time.

Trolling the past. I love it.

The Second Intermediate Period in Egyptian history, only because I've read the Lords of the Two Lands trilogy, and the final two books in the series more than once.
