Ok I have taken so many MBTI tests it is starting to bug me and I have taken them over time so it is not like I am just doing it all at the same time, but 95% of the time I type INTJ, the other 5% INTP. I really consider myself an INTP because after reading all the different type descriptions I really think the INTP fits me better than the INTJ, and others have confirmed this as well. So my question is does MBTI have a margin of error? A certain % amount that it could go either way, cause as you see I have a very weak J, that could probably easily be a P depending on how I answered a few questions.

For separating J/P, I think functional analysis is more appropriate than the actual J/P questions. Basically look up Ni, Ne, Ti, and Te. INTJ uses Ni-Te, INTP uses Ti-Ne, in that order. In actuality they are very different.
I still don't know my J/P though so don't expect it to be easy. Even after functional analysis I was stumped, since I'm something like, I think, Ti,Ne-Ni,Te.

The test is 70% correct. The free online test is even worse. The best method to know your type, according to the original research, is to read the description and decide for yourself. The test only help to narrow down your choice.
Ok well thank you, I can now officially designate myself INTP. Reading the types though I do share common traits with INTP, ISTP, and INTJ, but then again I am human so of course I will be unique.

I'd say the mere notion of some types similarity implies we'd see a bit of ourselves in other profiles. I identify with ~80% of other NT types description, 60% of INFP profile, and very little if at all with others.

lol. I should probably clear the air though, I was not implying that other species do not enjoy individuality; I was simply implying that as a human being, I am also unique. I was also just making sure you all understand that I am in fact human, and not a figment of mine or your imagination, though I have no evidence to prove this claim.

I spent the evening with my INTJ friend a couple of days ago and the difference between us became evident. I had been discussing an issue with him a few days previously and come to a conclusion I was happy with. When I saw him again I had started ruminating over it again and exploring other options. "I thought you'd resolved that" he said. "I had", I replied, "but then I thought of some other angles". "But they're not realistic or productive" he said. "Well I don't know that yet" I replied. He looked at me and said "I forget, because you're so like me, that you're INTP but here's the difference - once I find a solution that works, I'll stick with that but you just keep on exploring all solutions - that must make you quite miserable at times".
I had a bit of a eureka moment there and decided to try to stick with the workable and realistic solution once I find it. Bloody hard - but I think it could help my mental health lol.
That's the difference between Te-Ni and Ti-Ne I think - I never think about how my thought process works in the external world so I lose the need for those reference points. My friend uses his thinking to operate in the world (and he is awesome - like a wizard! I can't believe how brilliantly he gets his world to work for him) while I'm making myself sick with thinking for the sake of it.

I am somewhat similiar. When I first became aware of the MBTI, I typed as an INTJ. The INTP description has always seemed to describe me better though, but I still have my doubts. Hell, I've even thought I could be a "failed" ENTP.
Wow thank you. That is the clearest description I have heard of this whole thing yet. I definately do try to always find the best alternative even if I am already trying another way. Often at work I will finish something and then question if I could have done it quicker before moving onto the next thing. So thank you.
