Good afternoon everyone, So I recently took the MBTI test and, to my surprise, find out I'm an INTP and all the stuff I thought was unique to me is acually quite normal. Basically from there it's just been a lot of self-discovery and looking to fulfill the potential I thought I always had. I've been really struggling to find my place in the world, but nothing ever seems to hold my attention, much less my committment. It's been a real struggle professionally. I work in IT but I find a lot of my interests lie outside of that or a combination of both. I used to think I would be an illustrator but I could never commit to deadlines, which are essential to success in that field. I came to the conclusion that art should never be 'mass produced' and if so, should be called something else. I just didn't want to do it anymore, I started feeling resentment. IT seems like it could satisfy my creative and technical leanings but I am in a place where I don't have any real input and it is highly frustrating knowing I can be better allocated elsewhere. I feel lost as to what I need to do to get where I need to be. That's where this forum comes in though!!!! My 'dream job' would be the creation of green/sustainable/automated living systems and technologies. To plan the implementation of something like that would be most rewarding. Knowing I'm an INTP and what I'm good at, I feel a sense of responsibility to help making the world a better place for everyone.

Welcome, ActiveMind! :)

Knowing I'm an INTP and what I'm good at, I feel a sense of responsibility to help making the world a better place for everyone.

Now for the not-so-easy step: finding that dream job in the real world. Yes, I know that practical planning and follow-through are not easy for INTPs, but they are essentially the only way to get what you want--barring blind, dumb luck. So just take the process of finding your dream job one step at a time. What is the first thing that you can do to make it happen?

Well I'm looking at a non-linear process of getting there. I figure that my interests in computers and automation would be a start. I figure it's about finding people who can foster my ideas but have the resources to possibly take the ideas further. I thought about Kickstarter being a good way to present a finished concept, with people backing or not backing the plan. I think the biggest barrier with my ideas is that I had little to no reference to draw upon, just better ideas built on established ones. Now that technology is starting to catch up with my imagination, I now have something to show when I reference something that make others go "huh?".

Alright, so you've got the toys, and you've got the cash. Now what? I mean this question in the most hideously practical and concrete way.

Hello friend, and welcome.

Hopefully you will find some interesting ideas to confuse
clear the muddle in your head.

Sometimes I let the muddle be muddle for a while, until I seemingly become too careless to work it out, and then: bam. Suddenly all the solutions are there.

Until I change my mind again....repeat ad nauseum...

The bats are happy to see you too:

I actually don't have the cash, unfortunately.

Yes, you do. If you have the toys, then you can make a prototype, and if you make a prototype, then you can start a Kickstarter fund to help you develop it further; therefore, you have the cash, just not on hand. So unless you don't have the cash to develop a prototype, let's get practical.
