Im on 2 tablets of methylphenidate a day. The doctor says it is only a temporary drug, it only affects you for about 2 hours.

I want to test whether my intelligence goes down when i use the drug or not..

That's not an easy thing to do.

Sample size of one. You can't repeat the same test twice because sequence effects. You can't use two different tests because there will be variance. The effect you're looking for is too small to be found this way. Instead, look for studies that have been done using larger samples.

So stop believing in conspiracies?

The best test is doing things like maths or programming, or playing chess, thinking, reading with comprehension. See how long it takes you to reach similar efficiency today and monitor it over the next few months. You won't notice slight changes, but if there's anything significant you should be able to tell.

You should get a better idea what variables affect your ability the most, because assuming that only drugs are relevant is a mistake and you aren't going to get substantial results without knowing your baseline fluctuations.

There's also a possibility that you aren't using your brain enough day to day and possibly waste it away on a forum like this one, without being there and doing things what use is this knowledge, pretty vane from the get go.

I'd say that you aren't capable of performing an accurate test on yourself, because your performance is already affected by placebo and your preconceptions about how the drug should affect you.

As Hado said, see what studies say about your drug, look up statistics or forget about it.

Some of your perceived cognitive improvements while on the drug are probably just that: perceived, not actually objective. Self-observation won't work too well here I don't think.

The best test is doing things like maths or programming, or playing chess, thinking, reading with comprehension. See how long it takes you to reach similar efficiency today and monitor it over the next few months. You won't notice slight changes, but if there's anything significant you should be able to tell.

I'm not sure how well that would work. Math and programming, maybe. In both of those cases you could easily interpret the increased focus derived from the methylphenidate as increased intelligence. Chess is a lot more practice-based than it is intellect-based, which is why it's annoying when people put chess grandmasters on the top of lists for "smartest person in the world" or something like that. It's also not very equable; your opponent changes, as do the circumstances of the game, leading to a decent possibility for error.

You could try an IQ test, but I don't think that would work very well. You'd get better with each retake, and changing the test you used each time wouldn't be standardized. This one's decent if you do decide to try that.

One very subjective way of measuring a specific type of intelligence is via writing. Write a short fiction piece (or even just a fraction of a longer fiction piece) while on the drug, then while sober. Make it about 2000 words or so. Do it a couple of times for both states. Make sure you indicate which state you were in while you wrote it, and don't plan out what you're going to write in advance (so you can also measure spontaneous creativity, to a degree). After you've got a decent number of samples, you can judge them yourself and decide if you wrote better on or off the drug. You could also have someone else help. It might be a good idea to wait a couple of weeks before deciding to judge (or even reread) the writing, so that way it's less familiar to you.

also congrats on being the 1600th thread posted in this sub-forum

If you want the change to be more obvious and easier to measure, try taking 5 pills at a time :)

taking multiple free online iq tests with solid reliability may typically score you in a noticeable and consistent range.

here, a list of pattern/spatial recognition tests that have been normed (some are high ranged, they are very difficult so you may score lower than your potential if inexperienced)

iqtest.dk - ceiling 145 sd15

https://iqnavi.net/test/index.php?test=LS30 - ceiling 170 sd15 (Logica Stella)

http://www.cerebrals.org/jcti/index.html - ceiling 160 sd15 (Jouve's Cerebral Test of Induction)

https://iqnavi.net/test/index.php?test=E2H26 - ceiling 169 sd15 (Easy2Hard26)

http://www.iqchampion.com - ceiling 145 sd15 (very similar to iqtest.dk in terms of reliability and overall layout)

allow yourself two tries per test, JCTI is the only untimed test, fair luck
