Ah yes. I explain to my mother homeopathic treatments match placebos in trials and the concepts behind it are seriously unsubstantiated, but it doesn't matter to her... "X told me and she's really smart". "If it's so stupid why is it so popular in Europe?". "Who do you think is doing the studies?". These arguments are used over and over, it's all about the people. It's not that she's stupid or anything. I think some people just don't put the time into understanding how true ideas come to be.

Argumentum ad populum or "appeal to the people" happens to be considered a logical fallacy because it's so common.
