Hey fellow INTP's! I'm very relieved to stumble across and register here. As for all we know, INTPs have ALWAYS had difficulty meeting similar minds. Now, in the great era of mass communication, we can easily assemble and exchange on a different scale.

(Call me crazy, but I think if in a hypothetical scenario, INTP's were schooled amongst another from K - 12... that these pools of people would create hyper creative waves of culture when exiting. Forums serve a similar purpose, and in many ways are advancing science and thought beyond mainstream perspectives. This applies in such a wide variety of subjects. God bless the internet! The life of an INTP should only improve dramatically from here on out.. I believe. Don't hold me to it though! :))

Anywho, I have a simple question. What have been your reactions to choline/cholinergic supplementation?

This applies to: Fish oil, Ginseng, Ginkgo Biloba, Hyperzine A, Serine, Piracetam, etc.

I've tried fish oil and ginseng.

Fish oil gave me bad smelling burps, but I think it also increased my sex-drive.

I don't think ginseng did much for me that I noticed.

I've done research on choline in general and have come to the conclusion that I have naturally high levels of it due to my above average sensitivity and reflexes. I also do not gain weight even when eating tons of food--which, if I remember correctly, also indicated naturally high choline levels.

There's lots of it in egg I heard?

I am pretty sure I don't have very high levels of it but I do eat a lot of mildly cooked egg and chicken so I am pretty sure I get a healthy dose.

But I drink a lot too so I guess I gotta stop drinking. FUK UU ALCOHOL

Yes PJ, eggs are very high in choline. Hence why it goes so well with coffee (acetyl-choline).
Sounds about right Milo. Still waiting for more posts to observe

I remember my mother used to give me fish oil pills when I was 6-11 years old. Not quite sure what/if there was an effect. As for now, I am really not picky about food and my diet includes everything locally available (food) and socially acceptable (local population despises eating dogs, cats, etc. ) except for beans. Can't stand even little amounts of them.

Would 2-4 egg yolks per day be a sufficient choline source?

I take algae and spirulina. I notice my loss of edge when I don't take it. Do they have any choline?

According to USDA, spirulina does have choline. You haven't specified what species of algae you are taking though so I can't comment on that.

I used to take choline to supplement other nootropics. It would significantly raise my resting body temperature and I typically used it to prevent headaches that can occur when using any of the racetams. I've found cdp-choline more useful for my purposes.

Though I'm not a fan of nootropic drugs, I must admit that all this choline talk interests me. Hmm... perhaps I need to eat more choline rich food.

I used fish oil pills. But I can't say they did anything. Well, inside I am sure it does, but I don't register it. Right now I use line seed oil. Linum Usitatissimum. But I don't use them every day. I cna[t be asked to take it daily, not enough motivation and I forget about them.

So for memory it doesn't work :-)

But I don't understand anyhow how anyone can figure out what it does for them.

They say fish oil, or omega 3 fatty acids improve mood. Can't tell really. I used gelcaps also containing omega 6 and 9 fatty acids.

DMAE - Dimethylethanolamine

It raises acetylcholine levels far more dramatically than straight choline can. A large dose will make your brain feel like a supercomputer. It will also make your neck and shoulders uncomfortably tense and possibly cause muscle cramps. I usually got them in my fingers, often while driving, which was a smidge inconvenient. A smaller dose can lubricate your brain machinery and keep you sharp.

Only take it early in the morning, especially if taking a larger dose. Failure to do so may result in wicked insomnia.

In fish oil, I make sure to get some with a very high DHA. I do find my moods are a little bit more stabilized.

I've been meaning to try some Ginko Balboa for awhile.

Well i take fish oils and have been for a while now but i started to take them to help with joint mobility after i started working out a couple years ago. I also eat about 3 eggs a day.

I haven't really thought about its effect other then physical but i guess you could say my mood has been better ever since taking them but that could also be because of other things as well.

@Fat Bread, Ive heard it was useful to some as an ADD med alternative. How many milligrams do you take?

I usually take the standard dose recommended on the bottle - 100-130 mg or so depending on the brand. It can take a few days to build up in your system, so if you want to feel the full effect right now, dammit! you can take a larger attack dose. I used to take up to 400 mg for that purpose, though nowadays that seems pretty excessive. A double dose would probably do the trick.

As for ADD, I've got it and, in my experience, DMAE definitely helps, though it's hard to compare how effective it is relative to traditional stimulant medications. They may be about equal, but I think they focus on somewhat different sets of symptoms. I was recently prescribed ritalin. I don't think I'm going to continue to take it for health reasons, and that makes me a little sad because it has helped with the social anxiety aspect of my ADD much more than any other medication or supplement I've tried.

Ritalin sure helps me focus, too, but it actually seems to muck up my thinking. It's like my brain wants to take in one continuous, consistent stream of data but has no interest in processing any of it.

DMAE seems to do the opposite. While not increasing my social anxiety exactly, it does dull my interest in any kind of social activity as well as my motivation to seek it or deal with it when I can't avoid it, which is unhealthy and undesirable for me as it takes a lot of motivation and willpower to make attempts to overcome my social retardation as it is. It seems to blunt my emotions somewhat as well, which is probably related.

But cognitively, ohhhh man. This is Ti on steroids. You can sit and process and organize information and do calculations all day. It never gets old.

Hey! Thanks for the info! I may give it a try. I'm sure everyone's mileage may vary, but I will consider what you have said here.

I used to take fish oil pills, and currently I eat two spoonfuls of flaxseed every morning.
Both make it a little harder for me to fall asleep and not much else (I eat flax for the fiber, I do just about fine with 30-35ish grams a day).
