I gather that introductions are supposed to include a few facts about the person being introduced, to familiarize the community with the person being introduced as well as to facilitate meaningful social interactions and get formalities out of the way. Therefore...

I am 23. I am an American. I am an engineering student. I enjoy philosophy more, but I chose engineering as a way to make a living. I chose the name "Descartes" because Descartes was an INTP (I believe). I'm an INTP myself and I came to these forums to discuss my ideas with like-minded people. I also post at INTJf under the name "Parmenides." I attempted to use the same name here, but it was taken. My favorite philosopher is Wittgenstein and I enjoy 19th-century European Romanticist literature, as well as some of the American stuff.

Thank you for reading. Please reply so that I may get to know some of you. :)

You sound horrible. Engineer? Into 19th-century European Romanticist literature, wtf? You're meant to autistic for heaven's sake. Sigh, what is this world coming to?

YOU ARE BANISHED FROM THE ORDER OF ENGINEERS! BE GONE!

This is most disconcerting. Should I cease to read 19th century Romanticist literature, or should I stop reading books altogether and spend my days masturbating and doing Sudoku?

You't don't even know how to be an engineer? Who is your master? I shall be having words with him.

I am currently orphaned, that is, masterless. However, I do have a pet cat who more or less controls my every move. Would you like to speak with him? :phear:

A pet cat? Hmmm, you may not be as far gone as initially thought. I shall consult the elders of The Order of Engineers.

In the interest of making my case further, I am socially awkward and cannot tie my shoes correctly. I also talk to myself.

(seriously, though, are you an actual engineer?)

Yes I am an actual engineer. There is another actual engineer sitting in the desk behind me. :P

Ooh, coolies!! What kind of engineer are you? I'm studying to be a chemical engineer myself, with the hope of going into the petroleum industry.

I am a civil engineer. I don't actually work as a civil engineer. A electrical technology firm has hired me under the guise of a PhD (its cheaper for them) to develop some forecasting and optimization algorithms to find the best way to configure a electricity grid with some new types of tech. This aids them in determining the maximum cost of production of the product so that customers are receiving a benefit from the purchase and installation.

Yeah, the petroleum industry is a good one to get into. If can design new ways of getting greater yield, you will be quite valuable to organisations. They is also plenty of work in the process engineering subsets. If you're willing to travel the world, you will literally never be unemployed for longer than a month.

Descartes! This forum is inhabited almost entirely by cats. Unless you can prove that you are not a figment of Proxy's imagination, brought to life in order to have long and sonorous collusions over the raptuous glories of fracking... we shall be forced to tie you up in strings of fish sausage and eat you.... :twisteddevil:
