Like many others before me, I just recently discovered that I am allegedly an INTP personality type and my searches of it have led me here, among other places. I truly enjoyed what I have read from the posters here and thought it was about time that I at least attempt to contribute seeing as how friendly you all seem.

I am a collegiate chemical engineering student that would rather lay in a meadow or on the beach talking to a close friend or two than maintaining or improving mass chemical processes. I'm so lazy in fact, that it is possible that I may be kicked out of my major. I don't like studying. I don't like committing things to memory (which makes organic chemistry pretty difficult). I think a lot of this is the result of having a weaker-than-average T category for an INTP, but I'm sure others will know more (also I don't feel like talking about myself much anymore). See?! I'm already bored with this thread!

Anyway, since I have class soon, I'll awkwardly close with the hope that my inclusion (should you have me) to your INTP community will help me gain some insight towards whatever it is I am looking for in life.

Wishing well,
Dan

You're not a weak T my friend.

Remember details relates to Si, which is only a tertiary function, so none of us are very good with it. It is usually best tapped into when we really have interest and passion with what we are trying to understand (In other words, the more stimulated your Ti-Ne is, the more effective your Si-Fe will be)... But it sounds like you are losing your passion for chemistry, I know how that can be...

Anyway, welcome to the elder brain!

I don't like committing things to memory either. I just like to read to explore. It's a hassle when I feel pressured to remember. Of course it's nice to actually recall some of what I read, but I don't want to feel like I have to remember it. And school- I want to be able to come and go whenever I feel like it. I'm not too fond of being obligated to show then and then.

Anyways; Welcome! :)

Edit: Actually, come to think of it, that's not entirely true. Some things I like knowing. Now, for instance, I'm trying to memorize all countries and capitals of the world.

Behind you, kicking you in the ass
Welcome.

INTPs don't tend to go for memorization unless it's something we want to memorize for our own amusement. When it comes to memorizing some arbitrary facts or figures because some teacher wants you do, we tend to resist. If we ask ourselves "Will I have access to this information easily enough when needed?" and answer "yes", then we don't see the point of rote learning. We are problem explorers by nature and momorizing isn't usually required for that.
