is it even possible or is it just a pipe dream, something we humans try to chase but never achieve

the limits of immortality is that things eventually get old

and we need food and fuel (inputs) to continually survive and reproduce

if immortality is achievable , life still requires constant consumption of resources and fuel to maintain its form.

so to me immortality seems to be scientifically impossible.

I think that depends on what you define as yourself, and what you believe the threshold of immortality is.

You can't exist forever in this form. But maybe with adjustment you can (e.g. digitised consciousness).

We are currently reliant on the sun for nourishment, and that has an expiry date. To me, I'd be happy to define immortality as having enough time to do everything you want to do (a more market driven threshold). And this seems achievable. But if you want to never die ever, then you're going to need to figure out a way to outlive the sun (still doable I think), and then later the universe. A bit more difficult.

Aging is probably somewhat built in mechanism.
But were someone able to renew cells in the body without the body aging you can go for ever.
Only you would have to pay the cost of losing your identity to memory loss, as our brains do forget eventually.
It might help if the brain constantly renews brain cells. Jury still out on how brains regenerate.

DNA breakdown in cell division.

You need DNA rejuvenation.

The body is like a car, it's parts get replaced but at a cost where stability does not have everything fit together.

Or a house, wood decays and structural integrity falls.

Fixing both, your in the weather and on the road and you never stop. Understanding Metabolism is a key. Eat healthy, drink clean electrolytes water and exercise. But even then the organs need help later. Like a rubber band is ten years old you need new ones.

Your kidney filter out toxins.

You digest food.

Lungs get you oxygen and get carbon dioxide out of the body. Bone marrow is important to. Creates new red blood cells.

The immune system has to remember things and it gets full. You would need an artificial immune system to live 300 years or more.
