You want the community to flourish when you're confining communication and isolating the people from possibilities? -_- You might as well create rooms for each form of conversation and direct us to the appropriate channel when our topic changes.

I thought the main room had flexibility, to be honest, not a rigid system which prevents us having freedom with our expression. They seem to have recently integrated a bot to automatically remove anyone who FUCKING swears or SUED DAMN CAPS. You know what? FUCK THEM! Swearing is verbally required at times, and I do not think these rules need to be enforced in a COMMUNITY chat.

Listen, this is a place for a COMMUNITY, not a complex populace. Authority is far less imperative in these smaller communitys, and issues generally resolve themselves. How is swearing a major issue? I'd prefer to have the liberty of being able to swear.

All of this crap with categorizing our communication and imposing rules upon it is bullshit. We're a group of FRIENDS, not children needing parented or criminals requiring consistent moderation. If we have a problem, we solve it through us as individuals, not through a law syste.

PS:

It seems hypocritical that Ogion wants a 'fun', 'friendly' community when Groos is promoted to half-op. How is an individual who is persistently abusive and provocative suitable for this position? It's as if a government is allowing a notorious criminal to become a police officer! This seems to contradict their outlook of justice, fairness and peace when they are promoting those who are violate their rules frequently. Is it fair this person also becomes immune to those laws?!

Also, considering the arrogance and strictness of these moderators, I am concerned they will delete this thread. They seem to be very authoritative.

Jules, you seem to be pasting this to convey an exaggeration that this is a regular occurrence. This is uncommon, and I think very few people are truly offended with the behaviour. The attitudes expresed in these logs are clearly overly dramatic, which would lead an average person to presume it's only a joke.

Now, I think that a majority of the users present accepted these insults as mere friendly jeers. Sensitive people will inevitably be hurt in any environemnt, in my opinion. Should you restrict everyone for the minority who have difficulty tolerating the occasional black humor?

You're implementing your vision of right, not the community's. Nobody left? Who cares when he was not interested in the community? Are you categorizing me as equal to Nobody in logical value? Through character? Do you truly believe that he had the potential of becoming a regular as I am? He was destined to leave soon, in my opinion, and my presence would not have changed this. I believe that he was simply desperate for a valid excuse to leave and intended to cause drama with his decision.

The community has been functioning fine until these actions. Sure, a few people decieded to leave due to issues, but everyone generally adapted. The difference is that this issue seems to be hard for a larger than normal minority to accept. 3 people leaving at long, separate intervals due to different issues is acceptable, but numerous issues at once due to one incident? There is clearly an issue, and you are only trying to rationalize your evident fuck up to not look like a failure.


The community is dominate, Jules and Ogion, not you two. The community could easily leave and continue its existence in another room. The essence of what it is continues without you two present: a group of friends communicating. Why regulate this and try to enforce your values? It's only distressing people and causing dispute. Did our 'inappropriate' behaviour truly cause this? Why were the effects less evidently damaging than these actions of yours?

This all demonstrates that it's not you two who are in control, it's the community. Therefore, we are relevant and the people who should be deciding. You're not there to direct our communication and assert control over our interaction. We, the community, need each other, not a system to control us. Our natural characters should flourish and we should bond for who we truly are. Who is to stop certain expressions which enable us to bond genuinely?! I'm not taking them to an entirely different zone when needing to be done.

I hereby apologize to those who felt offended by the autokick of that bot. I honestly didn't think it would be cause of so much anger. That was indeed not the intention of it.
I disconnected the bot from the channel.

This leaves us still with the situation of having a need to 'reform' the channel and give our irc-community some clear rules.

BUT: These rules should come from the community itself, not just the op(s).

In light of this, i call for everyone interested to come and discuss the situation on the irc-channel itself, and also on a thread i will be making about this here in the forum.

Now, i hope you see me being honest and cooperative, so i ask that you may also be honest and cooperative in this matter.

On irc you can't. Every burp and fart is blurted out to everyone online. Sure, you can /ignore someone. Yet the funny thing is that people don't always do trash-talk, so a /ignore would maim normal conversation someone might be following.
On irc the equivalent to a thread or subforum is a channel. Trash-talk? Fine. In another channel, please.

I am assuming based on the general apparent reactions of everyone. People seem tolerant, even amused, a majority of the time. Sure, some are sensitive a few times, but it's rare for peple to truly be affected from it in the long-term.

Jules, there is a difference between a CHAT room and a FORUM. A forum is for discussion, but a chat room is for conversation. Discussions may occur, but the normal theme implied from 'chat room' is chitty chatter.

The title for the room was originally very general (no topic define), thus our conversations should be flexible. I certainly support this remaining. The chat room should not be treated as a forum which needs to be separated into sections for the relevant discussions.

I'm saying that the the community will define the path. If all of the community seam to lean towards ESTP heaven, why should it be forbidden? What will you do, remove this priviledge? They'll all leave. Where would be your community after this? You'd be a king with no men to rule, Jules.
