This is in reference to the Enneagram. I follow that more these days than Meyer-Briggs.

I myself would be classified as 5w4.
Type 5
Wing 4

I think it depends on the environment and situation. You are likely to be w4 when you are attending a place with strict rules like high school. w6 would show up in R&D or in math and science classes.

I'm not sure what this means for me. My scores were:

From reading the descriptions, I think I identify most with 5 or 9, but it all seems kind of wishy-washy to me. I haven't had a chance to read much of the site, so maybe I'm missing something. Hmm.

5s are often confused with 9's or 4's and vice versa. They are considered the 3 withdrawn types or I's going off Meyer-Brigg's but the system is totally different. 4s are emotional types. 5s are of the thinking types. 9s being more action, gut types. Chances are you can relate to one of those most. If you are in your head more than you are a 5 etc... where did you take the test?

Seems like for me, the 5w4 iconoclast description hits home closer than the INTP or INFP profiles.

I test as 5w6, but I can also relate to the 5w4 descriptions I've seen. Not surprising as there are two wings.

In most cases you only have one wing. Your type is your core personality and the wing is like a support mechanism. On the rare occasion where a second wing has influence it is so minuscule that its hardly worth considering. Even rarer would be equal parts of 2 but according to Riso/Hudson these to would be greatly diminished.

During times of great traumatic stress or a psychotic break it is suggested that a person can sort of drop a wing in favor of another. No conclusive studie has been done to confirm this though.

Not the way I heard it. I heard that everyone has two wings, though in most people, one is more pronounced than the other (so, kind of how Fe is the INTP's least developed function, but still there). However, I do note that this seems to be up for debate. In any case, most of the enneagram tests I found didn't even provide a wing. I had to infer my wing from the next highest number, but my 6 was only one point higher than my 4.
