Hello,

I'm a male in my mid-20s and I identify as INTP. I don't seem to have a particularly high IQ, nor am I a math, science or computer buff, but my worldview and thought process seem to match what would be expected of a Ti-Ne dominant. I also don't see intelligence as synonymous with a high IQ, but rather more of a collection of habits, such as constantly challenging my own assumptions and never ceasing to ask questions.

Curiously, my Enneagram type seems to be 4w5, which I understand is fairly uncommon for a Myers-Briggs INTP. My second type, however, is probably 5w4, which is much more common. And in this phase of my life I am much more like a 5w4 than a 4w5.

If I could go back in time, I would probably have studied math or computers or science, but I ended up getting what would be termed "a useless degree." I struggled with drug addiction and depression problems in college though, as well as a lack of motivation, which made it hard to major in science and such although I did take several classes. It is never too late to learn, though, and I do love learning so I am starting to immerse myself in the aforementioned subjects while still utilizing the skills I have been able to develop.

Well, I look forward to posting around and getting to meet you all.

What useless degree?

Officially, World Literature, but in my case it was essentially an English degree without having to read a lot of the boring and obsolete stuff from a few centuries ago. I was able to read more contemporary stuff in World Lit. I did get a kick out of Shakespeare, though.

Yeah, so I have pretty good writing skills and such, and so far I'm beginning to freelance in editing. Hopefully I can get more stuff lined up, but predictably my networking skills are lacking. Guess I'll have to work on that...

Like I said, I would do things differently if I could turn back time, but all I can do now is look ahead.

Networking would really help but complementing it with a set of skills is better. You can try to study other practical skills such as mechanics, carpentry etc. (I studied computer repair a bit although my skills are getting a bit rusty).

That seems like a good suggestion. The only thing is that I wouldn't want my skills to become so overly diversified that I become a jack of all trades, master of none. I'm not too much into working with my hands, but the thing I've learned to avoid most is society. I have a very hard time dealing with the average person, especially groups of them, although I did really enjoy hanging with the math/science/engineering people at university. I still have pretty bad social anxiety to this day, though. Unfortunately, I also struggle with sometimes overwhelming feelings of incompetence.

But, yes, acquire more useful skills -- got it, thanks...

What kind of stuff do you do these days?

I'm working with University based inventors to get their tech commercialized so that they can at least enjoy the fruits of their genius.
